Samayra POV
The next morning, I look at the car and wave goodbye as Ambar and a cousin decided to take the roadtrip on his mustang, while I was send in the airplane with my parents-in-law and Grandma, thanks to the availability of seats on the return journey and my increased fragility due to the pregnancy.
I went and sat next to my mother-in-law as Grandma ate roasted peanuts sitting cross-legged on the airport seat.
"Are you okay?" she asks and I nod feeling tired yet ready to go home as a man walks by with a strong weird perfume and at that moment, I almost felt my stomach do a somersault and I run towards the restroom. I puked my so called breakfast of bananas followed by some lassi (Indian buttermilk) and rinsed my mouth walking out as Grandma looked at me open-mouthed.
"Bahuu..." she says aloud enough to draw attention of the fellow waiting passengers.
(Daughter-in-law)
Oh Fuck. She is suspicious.Like why would a married Indian lady puke? There's no thing as indigestion in their dictionary when you are married. Just pregnancy .
Now, What do I do? Do I say no...
She'll kill me when she finds out that I lied.
Do I say Yes? No, she'll tell everybody and I'm not ready for that.
"Maa ji, Hum ghar jaa k baat krte hain." My mother-in-law says to calm her down as we were aware of some of our relatives boarding the same flight for Rehaan's reception.
(Mom, we'll talk about this at home.)
The moment these words left her lips, I could see my father-in-law resisting a face palm from the side of my eye. Well, my mom in law's words of hesitation to share the info and expressions did confirm it for her, so there's nothing to discuss when we go home.
"Bahuu... Btaya kyu na tanhe?" she says looking at me amazed, as if me conceiving was something naturally impossible.
(Why didn't you tell me, daughter-in-law.)
"Wo... Dadi hum dactar k pass ja kr confirm krenge. Kuch pkka nahi.." I say trying my best to avoid eye-contact as I was mentally searching for a hindi translation to the word 'confirm' if she asks. But she didn't.
(That.. Umm.. Grandma, We haven't confirmed anything with the doctor, so we aren't sure yet. )
To everyone's great surprise, she kept a hand on my head as if blessing and then nodded her head, smiling a million dollar smile without uttering a word. But after a while, when we were boarding she did whisper to herself, still smiling.
"Ishleen kaafi shubh hai, is parivar k liye." She says and I did frown but chose to not argue.
(Ishleen is really lucky for this family.)
