Samayra POV
I enter the room setting my dupatta right as Ambar sat on the bed still in his casuals with his back towards me.
"Ambar, get dressed. We have to reach before the couple and welcome the guests with mom and dad. You also have to look at the catering arrangements and..." I was speaking as I noticed that he was unusually still.
"Ambar?" I ask and he gives a slight "hmm" and so I get up and walk closer to see what he was doing on his phone, but instead saw him holding, what seemed like an official letter from the police department.
"Babe.." I say and stand next to him as he looks at me with what felt like tears.
"What's wrong?" I say taking the letter away from him to read it. I had barely finished reading the acknowledgments when he spoke.
"If I decide to get back in field, they don't have a requirement here since Avinash got promoted. They'll transfer me." He says and I look up shocked.
"What... No.. But like your fitness test is in 20 days and..." I say unable to think of him staying away from home.
"You've wanted to get back in field for almost an year now." I say almost a whisper and sit next to him on the bed.
"But we have a baby on the way, I can't just leave you alone." He says and I shake my head.
"I have two families here to take care of me. Go, if that's what you want." I say and turn to look at him trying my best to avoid the tears. Damn these pregnancy hormones.
"Maybe I'll just be posted somewhere that's not too far. I can travel 2-3 hours everyday..." he says every inch of him trying to br positive and I nod.
"Yup. Somewhere not too far." I say and both of us knew that travelling and living so far away from the area of jurisdiction will not be easy and not even practical since getting cases at weird times is normal. And he has never been a person that lets his juniors do the work, but takes credit in the end.
"I'll get ready. Where's the sherwani?" he says and I point to couch. He gets up and leaves as I sit there lost for a while. I've been so used to having him around even more so with his desk job and medical leave, that this change will be painful but also if he decides to continue the desk job, he won't be happy.
One thing I've learned is that no matter how much you try, your work life will always impact your family life. If he is not happy with his work, he will surely not be happy with me when he comes back.
"Ayra..." mom calls for me, breaking my chain of thoughts as I get up and run to see what she wanted.
