Rehaan/Chetan POV
"I really believe that you should not be eating so much chocolate." I tell my wife as she just shrugs and walks out of the room with her chocolate as I was still on bed, resting most of the time.
"Grandma is coming today." I say a little loudly as a pain shoots through my head and she runs back to me.
"You and everyone around you, is supposed to be speaking in a low voice. Legit doctor's instructions, unlike what you 'believe' I should or should not be eating." She says putting up another pillow behind me and straightening my neck to elevate pressure from the suture line.
"Someone is snappy today." I say as she gives a one-sided smile. I reach for her hand and take it in my mine.
"What's bothering you, Ishleen?" I ask as she shakes her head and I give her my adorable puppy face.
"I don't know how to face her." She says as I frown.
"You've known her since you were a kid; you met her around our wedding. It isn't your first impression. So why are you so anxious?"
"Rehaan ji... I... She..."
"It's about me? Isn't it?" I ask as she nods hesitantly.
"What if it wasn't a tumor? What if you were really the jerk? She lied Rehaan ji... She lied to me and my family. She made up this nice, well educated, career focused image of you and now... I've been lying to my mother, so you could look her in the eyes. I lied to my brothers all this while, so they won't beat you into pulp and I've never lied to them in my life." She says on the brink of tears as I open my arms for her, as she hugs me tight.
"I'm sorry." I say for the hundredth time, running my hand through her hair and even hundredth didn't feel enough. "And I don't doubt for one moment that your brothers would actually beat me to pulp, if that makes you feel better." And she chuckles.
"You don't have to apologize, not anymore. It was a tumor on your brain that impaired your decision making and social skills. But she did all this in her right senses, for her ulterior motives." She says as I couldn't help but chuckle.
"What?" she says lifting her head off my chest.
"You saved me..." I say and she frowns, pouting her lips.
"Last night... We had that... make out session and you didn't want to..." I pause thinking of the right word. I can't say 'Fuck' or even 'Have sex' seems rude.
"After you didn't want to make love... and I had this raging hard on. You hugged me and went to sleep and that made me think..." I say as looks curiously.
I love her curious, thoughtful look. Worry lines on the head, a scrunched up nose and that little pout.
"A hard on made you think? Isn't it supposed to take the blood away from your brain?"
"Hey, It was in the process of the blood going back to my brain. Do you want to hear it or not?" I ask slightly offended as she chuckles.
"Okay, tell me. How did I save you?"
"I was a stoner, unemployed man who had trapped himself in this room. No matter what I did, how much I pissed them off, my family had learned to just ignore my existence, until you showed up. They had given up on me and then they tried to set me straight again but this time it was for you, I was in prison, had a fight with Ambar and wanted to put my head through a wall, that gave me a concussion which sent me under an MRI scanner and I was diagnosed..." I say and she looks down at where her hand was still in mine.
"And no MRI, meant no Surgery... I would have just dropped dead in an year or half with a huge tumor in my skull." I say with a shrug as a look of fear overtakes her eyes.
"Rehaan, don't you ever say that." She says clutching my hand tightly and bringing it to her lips, planting a kiss on my knuckles.
"Not the tip I want a kiss on, but okay..." I say as she just rolls her eyes.
"Why are you so horny all the time?'' she says trying to get me to leave her hand and I just let it go as she looks at me shocked.
"What? Did I hurt you?" I ask.
"No, you just left my hand?" she says and I frown.
"Because you wanted me to leave it." I say as she shakes her head.
"I never said that I want you to leave it."
"I know I was... an idiot. But I won't touch you without your consent. Even if you're mildly uncomfortable, I'm obliged to stop."
"I was just feeling shy." She says as I laugh extending my hand as she gives her in mine.
"So, what you mean is... I saved you?" she says and I nod, bringing her face closer to mine.
"Ahmmm..." we hear the clearing of a throat and sharp knock on our wide open door, where Ambar and Samayra stood.
"I was here to drop your new roommate." She says as I smile.
"Yeah, sure." I say as she enters and a memory makes its way down my brain reminding of another conversation we had at the same spot.
"Hey, Samayra... I'm sorry..." I said as she frowns.
"For?" she asks confused as I look at Ishleen.
"Can you get me a glass of water?" I say as she points to the jar kept beside me.
"It's here, but I'll leave you guys alone." She says as I smile as she walks away.
"I am sorry for the things I said to you, when you came to talk to me about my decision to get married." I said as the frowns fade and is replaced by a look of understanding.
"Look Rehaan... All is forgiven because that was the tumor talking, but you say something like that again and forgiveness is the last thing you'll expect from me." She says as Ambar stood their confused.
"What are we talking about?" he says as I couldn't puzzle the pieces together until it came to me.
"He wasn't there..." I said as Samayra nodded.
"If he was, I can ensure you, your skull would have been opened a long time ago." She said as Ambar looked at me weirdly.
"What did you say?" he says in his elder brother commanding tone and I loved my life enough to keep my mouth shut.
"He said that he was getting married as a responsibility to this house, since we couldn't give this child an heir." She said as Ambar's eyes widened and filled with rage.
"Why would you tell him, now?" I asked and she shrugged.
"We just made a 'No secrets with each other' promise, so..." she said as I looked at Ambar standing with his hands tightened in fists and trying to take deep breaths.
"Bro..." I say as he walks out of the room fuming.
"Imagine If I also told him that you knew about our ovulation timers and that we were trying to conceive and you said all that to purposely hurt me." She said as my mouth falls open.
"You wouldn't. He'll kill me... Tumor or not." I say as she chuckles.
"I'll save that for next time." She says.
"Next time?"
"The next time you hurt Ishleen... There won't be an MRI. There will be a murder by Ambar and a dead body that I will help him bury." She said with her eyes narrowed.
"Hey. I'm trying to change and make amends."
"You should, if you don't have a deathwish." She said and filled a glass of water handing it to me.
"Your glass of water." She said with a sarcastic smile and I shook my head.
"You're evil." I said as she chuckled with a wicked grin.
"I know. So don't you dare hurt my sister. Because psychotic evil sister-in-laws run in my life."
"What do you mean?"
"Ask Ambar." She said and walks out.
