I was in the kitchen grinding masala for the curry we were supposed to make for dinner when I heard the main door open. I turn off the grinder to make myself audible.

"Hey Ayra bhabhi, I'm craving shahi paneer real bad so I'm making it for dinner, what are you craving today?" I say as dad who was in the lobby reading newspaper chuckles.

"Reena, the cravings of two pregnant woman run the dinner menu now?" he says as my mother-in-law glares at him from across the dining table where she sat peeling cucumbers.

"Tej, I want my grandkids to be healthy and fit, so they'll eat what they like." She argues as I ask Gina with the gesture of my hand, to take over grinding as I remember to ask Amber about the visitor card I need to talk to my husband. I wash my hands and wipe it with the towel walking out as Ambar and Ayra stood there looking pale and at each other.

"What's wrong? You both look worried." My mother-in-law asks as Ambar opens his mouth to speak but Ayra takes over.

"Ishi, I need you to try and remain calm when you hear this." She says and I was sure that whatever it is, It's not good.

"For your little one." She says coming to stand before me, as my mother-in-law stood up and Ayra took my hands in hers, "I need you to breathe and tell yourself that this will all be over and there's happiness at the end of this very dark tunnel." She says as my heart keeps sinking a little every passing moment.

"Rehaan is in the hospital. He hurt himself in the prison." Ambar says saying it all in one single blow that sucks the air out of my lungs. It felt like someone had punched me straight in the guts. As Ayra had told earlier, I take a deep breath and place my hand on my belly telling my baby that it'll pass soon.

"Can I see him?" I ask as our attention is diverted by the clink of a knife falling on the floor as Ambar runs before my mother-in-law would have collapsed, with her head hitting the floor.

"Reena..." my father-in-law says going to her side as Ayra and me stood their frozen.

"I want to see him." I say as Ayra nods.

"Ambar, please be with mom. I'm going with Ishleen." She says as Ambar suddenly gets up.

"No, you aren't driving. Wait one minute, let me take mom to her bedroom and then I'll go with her and you can stay here." He says lifting mom and taking her to her bed as Ayra was about to leave my hand but I hold it tighter.

"Please... Don't... I just... I'm falling apart and... I feel like you are my anchor right now." She says putting an arm around me and taking me to the sofa.

"Ishleen, you need to know something first." She says as I shake my head.

"I am not ready for more information right now... The past few days... I... All these..." I was about to say as she cuts me in.
