The day passed quietly, as I was in the room searching the web for some research articles on a rare case that was presented to me in the clinics. Ishleen had been occupying my brain a lot making it hard to focus, but I had lives to save and duties to do.
It was around 5 in the evening when I inhaled the petrichor as the sweet muddy scent made my pregnant heart bloom. I kept the laptop aside and got up to open the balcony door noticing the rain fall in slow small droplets over the dry grass of our lawn beneath us. I smiled looking down breathing in the fresh, cold air as I heard the room door open and peeped to look on the intruder.

"Hey.." I say as my husband smiles bringing a tray of freshly cut fruits infront of me.
"It's more of a bread pakore and tea kinda weather." I complain picking up a piece of kiwi and putting it in my mouth.

"Yeah, and that sounds like.... Zero vitamins and minerals..." he says walking along with me to the balcony, the tray still in his hand.
"I already take multivitamins, you shouldn't be saying no to a pregnant woman's cravings and plus..." I pause thinking of another valid excuse as I look at my tummy and smile viciously.

"Ayra, What is going on in that little vile brain of yours?" he asks and I pout giving him my best puppy eyes.
"First, nothing about my brain is little plus... You'd not say no to your baby. Would you?" I ask as he groans.
"What? No... That's..." he complains as I overrule.
"Your baby wants..." I was about to say when I hear what sounded like a muffled scream.
"Ishleen?" He says recognizing the voice before I did as he throws the tray towards the table, completely missing it letting the fruits scram around and hurries towards the door as I follow him.

We run out of the door just in time as their bedroom door opens and Chetan pushes Ishleen out of the room and shuts the door.

"What the..." I mutter as Ishleen stood with her back to us clearly sobbing and Ambar goes to her and looks at her face. She still had her back to me, but I could see Ambar becoming furious by whatever he saw on her face as he kicks the door.
"Chetan" He says ready to break the door.
"You better open this door, because if I break it, you're not going to like what I do with you." He says as I reach Ishleen and look at her.

There was blood oozing down her lips and her shirt a little ripped from the front on her shoulder that she was trying to cover with her hand.

"Oh my God." I mutter opening my arms and letting Ishleen fall back on me as I hug her tight as she keeps sobbing. Tears went down my cheeks unable to look her in the eyes at what we had done by marrying her into this hell.
"Rehaan ji... He... He..." she says sobbing uncontrollably pointing towards the door as I rub her back trying to calm her down as she slides down on the floor, me supporting her fall.

"Ishleen... shhh... it's fine. You're safe." I say putting my arms around her.
"Ishleen?" mom says entering the room with a pile of dried laundry from the roof.
"Mom. I'll take her in my room. You be with... him..." I say pointing towards Amber looking at the door with bloodshot eyes. I didn't want him to seriously hurt his own brother that guilt would eat him alive.
