James drives with the music blasting. He's not sad or even angry... He's frustrated. RING... James looks at this phone, which reads: "UNKNOWN". He ends the call.
Seconds later... RING. Another call from "UNKNOWN". James lowers the music and answers on speaker.
JAMES - Hello?
SILENCE. No one answers. James hangs up.
Right when he goes to turn the music up, RING. James lets it ring a few times before he exhales and answers.
JAMES (CONT'D) - Yes?!
NOAH (V.O) - Hello? James?
NOACH has an inviting tone.
JAMES - Yeah?
NOAH (V.O) - Finally... Sorry about that. How are you?
JAMES - Fine -- who's this?
NOAH (V.O) - Well my name's Noah Eby from GAA Talent Agency.
(and)
I saw your headshot and reels form Richard. I heard my ol' friend, Kevin Weeks recommended you.
James struggles to comprehend this. He pulls the car over.
NOAH (V.O) - Still there?
JAMES - Yeah... Do you mind if I call you right back? I --
NOAH (V.O) - Sure! Of course.
James hangs up and appears confused. He calls Kevin... RING.
KEVIN (V.O) - Hey, is everything okay?
JAMES - Yeah. I was just, uh...
James stops. Everything seems too odd to explain.
KEVIN (V.O) - You were, what??
JAMES - Weird question, but have you talked to anyone named Noah Eby recently?
KEVIN (V.O) - Noah Eby? Never heard of him. Why?
James scrolls through his phone, seeing if he could find Noah's number. He only finds three calls from "UNKNOWN".
JAMES - He just called -- even mentioned your and Richard's name.
KEVIN (V.O) - Wait. This was an agent?
JAMES - I mean he claimed to be. But he --
KEVIN (V.O) - What did he say?
JAMES - I dunno. I wanted to call you first to see if --
KEVIN (V.O) - You hung up on an agent?! The fuck is wrong with you, James? Go! Go call him back.
James panics. He still doesn't have Noah's number.
JAMES - I-I can't. I don't --
KEVIN (V.O) - Bye!
Kevin hangs up. James sits, unsure of what to do, when... RING. A call from a "323" area code calls.
JAMES (into phone) - Hello?
NOAH (V.O) - James! Hey, me again. Wasn't sure if I missed your call or??
JAMES - No! I was just about t o call you back, but --
NOAH (V.O) - Good. So I wanted to tell you more about myself and our agency.
Slowly, Noah's voice begins to fade away...
NOAH (V.O) - We're located in the heart of West Hollywood, and currently represent...
... Until all sound has faded. With each passing second, James' face lights up more and more.
KEVIN (PRE-LAP) - I'm not a guy with many regrets.
PRE-LAP: Kevin takes a hit of a blunt.
KEVIN (PRE-LAP) - But not going out there -- truly pursuing my passion -- is just about my only one.
