INT. NOAH'S CAR (MOVING) - DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - DAY
Noah approaches a red light. He looks over to James, who scrolls through his phone -- gloomy.
NOAH - What's wrong, bub?
James ignores Noah.
NOAH (CONT'D) - I don't get why you're so worried. You heard Denise -- she loved you.
JAMES - Hmh, we'll see.
Noah looks to James with sympathy. The light turns green.
NOAH - If this doesn't work out, how about we --
HONK. A car behind them startles Noah, as he starts driving again. James doesn't react.
NOAH (CONT'D) - I was trying to say, that we could always go and --
RING. James' phone lights up -- a call from "Denise". James looks confused. Noah looks to his phone, ecstatic.
NOAH (CONT'D) - It's Denise!
JAMES - Since when did I get her number?
NOAH - Answer!
James' phone keeps RINING...
NOAH (CONT'D) - Um, hello?? Answer it maybe?
JAMES (into phone) - Hello?
DENISE (V.O) - Hey James, it's Denise. Just wanted to update you.
Noah glances back and forth between the road and James.
JAMES - Sure, what's up?
DENISE (V.O) - Well, after a lot of consideration.
BLACK
With the same light-red hue as before.
DENISE (V.O) - I'm sorry, but we feel like you just aren't the fit we're looking for.
BACK TO SCENE
As James sits impassive and silent -- unsure how to react.
DENISE (V.O) - James? You there?
James snaps out of it. Noah, unaware of James' reaction grows more and more eager to hear what Denise said.
JAMES - Uh, yeah. Sorry.
DENISE (V.O) - Did you hear what I said? We're going to move on without you.
FLASHBACK
INT. OFFICE - DAY
Picking up right where we left off with James in the office. The Two Men turn around. Again, once before their full faces are revealed...
END FLASHBACK
BACK TO SCENE
As James lulls his head back onto the seat, still on the phone.
NOAH - Did you get it?!
DENSE (V.O) - I know rejection calls are hard but don't give up.
James closes his eyes.
FLASHBACK
INT. OFFICE - DAY
Continuing the last FLASHBACK, the Two Men turn around... Revealing Corey and Sergio., They both lend James a snide smile.
DENISE (V.O) - Unfortunately in this industry, it's more politics than anything.
END FLASHBACK
BLACK
PRE-LAP: James shuffles moving boxes around.
JAMES (PRE-LAP) - Yeah, I get in tomorrow at six a.m.
