I/E. ISIAH'S MANSION - NIGHT
James and Kevin approach Isiah's party. It seems with each new party, the houses get more and more grandiose than the last. James walks with grace, while Kevin tries to fit in.
KEVIN - Jesus Christ, these fucking homes.
JAMES - Crazy, right?
Kevin goes to open the front door, but James stops him.
JAMES (CONT'D) - Alright, real quick...
KEVIN - Great, you're gonna give me rules for this, huh?
He notices SARAH ALLEN (40's) walking into the party.
JAMES - Not rules, as much as what to expect. I --
KEVIN - That was fucking Sarah Allen.
JAMES - Yeah, she was at my premier too.
Kevin scoffs in disbelief that this is all real.
JAMES (CONT'D) - But listen. LA -- mainly this whole Hollywood scene -- is not your normal one.
As more people enter and exit the party, Kevin grows more amazed as he recognized nearly all of them.
JAMES (CONT'D) - Just make sure to keep an open mind, alright?
KEVIN - I'm twenty-eight. I'm sure I can manage.
JAMES - I know.
James smiles. He's glad to have his old friend back.
LATER
James stands in the BACKYARD at a self-service bar. He pours two drinks, as Kevin rushes to him.
JAMES (CONT'D) - Got lost?
KEVIN (wonderstruck) - I just walked past Adam and Lilly Richards!
JAMES - It's never something you quite get used to.
James hands Kevin a drink. ISIAH (30's) approaches them.
ISIAH - Ah, James! How are we?
Isiah kisses James on both cheeks.
JAMES - Isiah, this here's my hometown friend, Kevin.
KEVIN - I'm such a huge fan.
ISIAH - Thank you...
Isiah inspects Kevin. He seems distant from him.
ISIAH (CONT'D) - So this must be the outsider you were telling me about.
JAMES - Yup. The one who made me the actor I am today.
KEVIN (ambivalent) - Outsider??
JAMES - I always say that he should've made it, and not me.
ISIAH - Is that right, Kevin?
Kevin snaps out of his slight annoyance and turns to Isiah, who makes himself a drink.
ISIAH (CONT'D) - You're more of an actor than James here?
KEVIN - Well-uh, maybe back in the day. But clearly, he's more successful than I'd ever be.
ISIAH - Hey, talent isn't even half the battle. Here, it's all about who you know.
JAMES - He's right.
