Christian comes downstairs as I made breakfast for us for his birthday. He steps up to the island, "Did you make breakfast?"
"Maybe."
He comes around the island, wanting a hug. "Happy Birthday."
He hugs me around my waist. "Thank you."
He squeezes my butt. "What'd you make?"
"There's pancakes and bacon in the oven keeping warm. Some fruit. And there's coffee on the table for you."
He kisses me, "Thank you."
"Of course." He sits down after taking out the food in the oven.
We ate most of the food I prepared. He takes our plates to the sink, kissing me before I get up as well to get his gifts.
"Where are you going?"
"Sit down. Give me a minute."
I hear the chair scratch against the floor as I go into the spare bedroom. I move the pile of blankets in the closet, revealing a couple of boxes wrapped in navy blue paper.
I put the blankets back where they were and close the closet doors before going back out to the kitchen where Christian is playing with Cooper, Alecia's dog. He's been over here while we've been here and I love every bit of it since I can't have a dog.
I set the boxes in front of him and sit down in my chair. "I thought I told you I didn't want anything."
"Yeah, you did. But we don't listen to each other when we say things like that."
Cooper comes by me and gets his front paws in my lap. He is not a lap dog anymore but he tries to be.
"Any order?"
"No."
He takes the bigger box and rips the wrapping paper, setting the scraps on the table to be cleaned up afterward. He opens the box, taking out a clear plastic bag with a jersey in it.
He looks up at me, "Are these all of my jerseys?"
"Most of them." It's basically a collage of every jersey he has ever worn. It's not meant to be worn out in public but to show how far he's come from high school.
"What's missing?"
"Your high school jerseys and a couple of minor league jerseys. There's a shadow box in the garage that we can put it in and display it next to the other jerseys you have."
"How'd you do this?"
"Your mom helped me get the jerseys because she had a few laying around that she knew she had duplicates of. Then I sent all of that to Mikayla's grandma because she's a seamstress and has done so much with sewing. Then she sent this to your mom who then sent me pictures and hid it here."
"You two are sneaky."
"I like to call it working well together."
He takes the smaller box and rips the paper open revealing a new set of AirPods. "You didn't have to get me new ones."
"I remember you said something like they weren't working and mine started being weird too. So I figured I'd get you a pair because I was already getting a new pair."
"Thank you."
"I have one more. You need your phone."
He reaches across the table for his phone while I take mine out of my pocket. "I'm gonna AirDrop something to you. Before I do that, this one is more for both of us. I didn't want to wait until February to give you this. Also, it's really cheesy but we'll both enjoy it, I hope."
