Christian~

"Did you get to your hotel?" I ask Dani as she gets off the bus.

"Yeah."

"What time is it for you?"

"10:45. So it's almost game time for you, huh?"

"We still have a couple of hours."

I watch her navigate through the hotel finally getting to a dark room. She turns a light on. Her facial expressions tell me the room is pretty nice from just a first glance. "Nice room?"

"Yeah, there's a balcony and a really nice bathroom." She sets her phone up against a wall before hiking her suitcase onto the bed to get a few things.

"How was your flight?"

"Not too bad. It was only three hours. I just happen to not sleep well on the flight like normal."

"When's your first match?"

"Three days from now. Tomorrow we're going to the Amalfi Coast to be tourists and I get real Italian pasta and mimosas tomorrow."

I chuckle, "How far is that?"

"I think it's 90 minutes away. I don't know. I'm too tired to comprehend anything right now."

I watch her get ready for bed before being interrupted by some very loud knocking. It startles her and she goes to the door. "Why are you so loud?"

"Bus leaves at 9. I'll wake you up at 8 if you're not up," Mik tells her.

"Okay."

"Hi, Christian!"

"Hi, Mikayla."

"She's so loud at night," she tells me, closing the bathroom door but keeping the light on. She puts on my sweatshirt before getting into bed.

"How was your day?" she asks quietly.

"It'll be good if we can win this game. We've lost five in a row."

"From pitching or hitting?"

"Hitting. Our pitching has been stellar but we can't hit for shit lately."

"Are you included in that?"

"Yeah. I think I've had at most one hit the last five games. I had a double yesterday. Other than that, I've had a few base hits and getting walked constantly."

"Didn't you get hit the other day?"

"Yeah, in the arm. Right on my bicep." I roll up my sleeve and show her.

"He got you good. Not sure how this makes it better but I got hit in the face yesterday so I guess we're even."

"Is that how that works? We each get hit and laugh about it."

"Yeah. Except you probably didn't fall after getting hit."

"Walked it off. Wind knocked you to the floor?"

"Yeah."

"Why don't you go to sleep? I can tell you're exhausted."

"Because I want to talk to you. Tell me more about your day." She sets her phone on the nightstand and moves around so her head is on the pillow but she's looking at me.

"Well, my mom is coming in soon. Probably next week. Your sister stopped by the other day with Bentley. She had a couple of boxes with your name on them so they're sitting on the table waiting for you."

"You can open them. It's the ties, pocket squares, and a few pairs of heels because I couldn't decide which ones I liked better. Our invites should be coming in soon except I don't know where I sent them. It could be to your mom or the house."
