Dani~
Paradise ValleyI toss the pregnancy test at Christian, "Nope."
He shakes his head before tossing it back to me. I toss it in the trash can, "We're doing something wrong."
"I don't think we're doing anything wrong in that sense."
"Clearly, we are."
"It's just not the right time."
He comes over and hugs me. "It'll happen. We're not doing anything wrong. Nothing is wrong with us."
"You don't know that. I put my body through hell for the past six years. It's not like I've been easy going on my body because I know that I haven't."
"Okay, then do you want to go to somebody?"
"No, because I don't want somebody telling me that I can't have kids."
He sighs, "We're going to be fine. You will get pregnant. I believe in that. So should you."
I sigh, "Okay."
I go into the closet and zip my suitcase up. I'm flying out to Colorado to see how the new coach is doing. Also to see my girls. "What time do you need to be at the airport?"
"By 10. Flight leaves at noon."
"Okay, then we need to leave soon."
I push my suitcase out to our room. As I start getting dressed, Christian pops his head in, "You want to go again?" he asks with a slight smirk, pointing back to the bed.
"You just said we need to leave soon."
"Okay, and? It takes 15 minutes to get to the airport. So if we leave by 9:45, we should be good. It's 9:30 now. We have time. C'mon, fifteen minutes. We're wasting time talking about it."
"You're very cute and manipulative."
"Well, is it working?"
"Yes."
I take off the shirt I had just put on. "It could be the time you get pregnant."
"I already said yes. Let's go."
I sit down in one of the many open seats in the arena that the girls practice in. It's their first official practice after having a few days of team bonding with Kira.
The girls know I'm up here but Kira doesn't. I watch as she directs them to start warming up but they're already doing that. This could go one of two ways. Really bad or somewhat good. No in between.
I'm pretty close to the court. Mikayla and Lauren look up at me and shake their heads. After their warmups, she brings them together. They talk about a few things before they get set up for a serve receive drill.
I put my feet up and watch them. They are not impressed so far. I contemplate calling Coach Sheffield. I know what I say won't change anything but maybe he can talk to them.
Fuck it. I'm doing it. All of them are minding their business, doing what they know. But also not taking in what she wants.
I call him, "Hey, Dani, what's up?"
"Are you sure you want to be done?"
"Where's this coming from?"
"I'm in Colorado right now watching their first practice. They had a few days of team bonding. I got in yesterday to watch how this new coach is doing."
"And how's she doing?"
"She's not you and everyone knows that."
"Okay but everyone knows that it's going to take time."
