Part 5
The pair managed to find the interior of the house and each let out a sigh of relief. They made it... now to find the-
"Hm? Oh my..."
Both turned to see an older man looking at them with wide eyes. Both recognized him as the chief of this village. His shock melted into amusement as he chuckled.
"Oi! Stop laughing and fucking help us!!" Bakugou yelled and Kosai once more sighed, but certainly not in relief this time.
"I see the pixies have had much fun with you two. I am very aware of their tricks, such as this one." The old man muttered and went towards a cabinet. "Lucky for you both, we have lots of antidotes for pixie magic since we deal with them so often in this village."
He pulled out a vile of purple liquid and started to pour it into a set of dishes. The liquid came out in chunks and smelled rancid. The man moved each dish to the pair and motioned for them to drink it.
Kosai gulped and held her breath as she took a sip. It tasted worse than it smelled... but she immediately started to regrown into her normal size. She jumped off the countertop and by the time she landed on her feet, she was back to normal.
Bakugou was quick to follow her, though, he was still gagging from the taste it appeared. He was still standing on top of the small table and jumped down, not wanting to crack or break it since he was back to his original size.
"Here." The chief of the village and head mage spoke, holding out pieces of bread. "To get rid of the taste."
Both scarfed it down and looked relieved for this ordeal to finally be over. The old man nodded at the pair and then motioned towards the door. Both Kosai and Bakugou looked at the old man and he gave them a cheeky smile.
"Well... I am paying you only for a completed job. So, if you want to be done before sunset and on your way home with gold pieces- I'd hurry and finish the job."
Kosai and Bakugou blinked and seemed to remember that they both had indeed forgotten the purpose of this little trip. Between the pixie's little trick and nearly getting killed by a cat... they forgot about their petty little competition.
"We'll try to be done in a timely manner!" Kosai bowed to the man and then moved to the exit of the home.
"Better have that gold ready when we're done!" Bakugou told the old man as he headed out after Kosai.
The old man merely chuckled and looked at the cat who entered the home from the door that had been left open. The cat purred and rubbed its head against the old man's legs. He merely shook his head and started to do exactly as Bakugou asked of him.
Now that they were back to their normal size, the job was once more on their minds. Any fighting that had been there previously was no longer present. The pair were not working together, but they were not actively trying to sabotage the other either though.
After a long day of hunting pixies and relocating them elsewhere, the village was finally at peace once more. The pair waited to leave after the meal the villagers prepared for them and once the chief of the village brought out their reward.
Kosai took the sack of gold and then thanked the man for his understanding of what had happened. The old man only chuckled and waved the pair off. He had said that he understood how mischievous pixies could be... so Kosai had wondered if maybe this old man had also been a victim to their little games before. But, now was not the time to ask or poke her nose into a stranger's past.
After a final bod of farewell, Kosai climbed into the back of the cart and watched as they started to move out of the village and back in the direction their guild was located. Kosai hummed, glancing back towards Bakugou. He had his eyes closed and his feet up on a seat that was meant for her.
Kosai didn't mind though, she wanted to sit on the edge of the cart and glance at the sky above as the night rolled in and it turned into a vast display of stars. She set the gold next to Bakugou and did exactly that.
It was quiet for a while until she heard Bakugou shifting and the sounds of the gold clinking against one another in the sack. Kosai turned her head and saw Bakugou was taking coins out and putting them into piles of two.
He'd pull two coins out and put them into the pile on his left and then pull two coins out and put them into the pile on his right. His carmine hues lifted up when he sensed he was being watched.
"Fucking what?"
"Nothing. Thanks for seperating the coins." She spoke gently to him.
"One of us had to..." Bakugou mumbled and then looked as there were five coins left.
He looked back up at Kosai and saw she had turned her attention back to the scenery outside of the cart. He frowned and took two coins out. He took the pile short two coins and put them back into the sack, making that sack have one coin more than the ones still on the handkerchief on the ground.
"Oi." Bakugou spoke, dropping the sack by Kosai's side. "Your share."
"Thanks." Kosai nodded and put it into her bag of personal items.
Bakugou clicked his tongue and went back to his own pile. He asked himself why he gave her that extra coin but couldn't find an answer. As he stuffed his coins into his own bag and exhaled in exhaustion, he finally settled on why he had done so.
If he was short one coin, it meant that Kosai owned him another mission so they would be even. Another mission with her... Bakugou rolled his eyes and told himself it was only so he could have his well-deserved even share of the gold.
Even though... some part of him he refused to acknowledge enjoyed this mission and enjoyed her company. For now- they were rivals but maybe one day... they could be friends or even something more. He didn't dwell on it, instead, shrugging the thoughts off and going back to sleep.
He was too tired to deal with more bullshit after all.
The End
