Jason collapsed when they returned to camp at dawn, his body heavy with exhaustion. Cassandra immediately dashed through the camp in search for Scarlett, while Greyson went to get healed.
Jason barely registered the commotion around him until he felt a firm hand grip his arm and pull him to his feet.
Blinking against the early light, he looked up to see Cindy, who was staring at him with a frown.
"They started delivering food last night," Cindy said, pointing to a long plastic table.
They'd eaten fruit at the grocery store, but seeing the joys of muffins and bread was incredible.
Jason's mouth watered at the sight of the muffins and bread, and he rushed over to join the others surrounding. He snatched a carrot muffin from the overflowing table, his fingers trembling slightly. He broke off small pieces, savouring the taste the sweetness of the muffin.
Nevaeh stood nearby, arms crossed and a smirk on her lips. "Your housewife happens to be in your trailer," she said casually, tilting her head. "I'm pretty sure she's awake."
Jason had barely seen Bella since she had come back from being in isolation. At first, he was upset with what she did, but those were in the past. All he had to do was focus on what was happening now.
"I'll go talk to her," he muffled, walking past people who greeted him back.
He had a few scrapes and bruises, but Emma already had a lot on her plate. He had no idea if anyone was hurt or if only Stick had died. Cassandra did mention that someone else had died, but she couldn't tell who because their bodies were ash. His own power could burn someone, which made him wonder if that follower had his own power.
The food was near the infirmary tent as he walked over, seeing the number of injuries. People were being handed small portions of cooked meat Nelson served or different fruits.
"Welcome back, soldier. How was the war?" Bryce asked with a sly grin, sitting up with his still-broken legs.
"Fine," Jason replied.
"I happened to break both of my legs, which has been pretty shitty," Bryce added. "However, I get to see Emma daily, so I'm fine with it."
Emma shifted her attention from healing Bryce to James, who was still severely injured. She glanced back slightly before going to Angel, who was still injured from Luke.
"I haven't seen much of your housewife lately" Bryce continued. "Then again, I haven't been looking."
Before Jason could respond, Mia stepped into the tent, laughing as she pointed at Bryce. "You look like a feeble child," she said with mock pity.
"And you look like a crackhead with that uneven hair," Bryce snarled.
Jason felt someone run their hands through his hair and he jumped, causing Mia to laugh. "I'll dismiss myself," he said awkwardly, walking away before Mia could potentially flash him.
He went to his own RV and quietly opened the door, but Bella was already awake. She was sitting on the couch and smiled at him.
"Welcome back. Did everything go okay?" she asked.
He returned the smile, nodding tiredly as he handed her the remaining pieces of the carrot muffin. Her eyes widened, and stuffed it all in her mouth before noticing a mark on his cheek.
"Your cheek is red," Bella said softly.
"Cassandra hit me," he explained, rubbing the tender spot. "I wasn't paying attention when she sensed Ashley had arrived. She ended up separating the real Ashley and God."
