Everyone stood in shock, their eyes glued to the display of fireworks that illuminated the dark sky. The explosions burst in shades of blue and purple, each eruption accompanied by a fierce glow that seemed to see everything ablaze.Scarlett felt a rush of emotions as tears streamed down her cheeks. She quickly wiped them away with the back of her hand while taking in her surroundings. People around her were staring in both disbelief and awe at everything they had just witnessed.
It finally ended. After months of hell, she had witnessed her daughter defeat the thing that had kept them trapped inside this bubble. How easily Cassandra beat that thing was astonishing, almost as if it were a simple game.
"Run!" Mark shouted.
They all ran away from the burning plaza, her heart racing, and headed towards the highway. The raging fire consumed everything in its path, spreading rapidly through the plaza on flipped cars, nearly houses, and crackled around fallen trees that had been reduced to ash.
Scarlett felt a firm grip on her hand on, and turned back to see Greyson running behind her. She stopped and hugged him tight. The two of them actually survived this madness through the long eleven months.
They both ran forward, but it seemed most of them stopped after seeing the real outside world. People were frantically searching for their child or others clung tightly to their children, tears streaming down their faces. Yet, she knew both their parents wouldn't be here.
"Let's go to McDonald's! We can get hotcakes, fries, and ice cream!" Mia cheered.
However, the scene around them was anything from joyful, as police officers and paramedics swarmed the area. Scarlett scanned her surroundings, noticing that the road nearby was closed off. Multiple emergency vehicles were parked on the grass or in the middle of the road.
Im the distance, ahe could see the McDonald's that would just be off the highway out of town, which had a parking lot filled with adults rushing over.
"We need you all to head to ambulances!" a voice boomed in a megaphone.
Greyson took hand and her guided her towards one of the waiting ambulances. Just as they approached, a tall male police officer stopped in front of them, blocking their path.
"Greyson and Jason are coming with us," said the blonde police officer firmly, his grip on Greyson's shoulder. "They must be contained in their own room."
Neither of them didn't resist, but Scarlett could tell that Greyson wanted to use his powers. She wondered if they still had their powers as the female paramedic guided her to an ambulance. When she touched her wrist, she widened her eyes and fell her low rank.
As they helped her into the ambulance, the other paramedics tended to her wounds. Two other people were loaded inside, who were Emma and Mallory. The police officers shut the door before the ambulance drove off.
"Girls, you will be transported to the Toronto Sick Kids hospital. You may not be with all your peers due to your malnutrition and injuries," the male paramedic stated.
"Why do we still have our power?" Emma whispered. "We shouldn't have them because we all saw them die."
"Is something internal?" the female paramedic asked.
Scarlett was just as baffled as Emma because it didn't make sense. She had watched Cassandra melt away Divina and Ashley, who were the ones primarily responsible for the powers they had developed over the past couple of years.
"Girls, we are aware of these supernatural powers some of you have developed. However, once your severe injuries and malnutrition have healed, you will be put on trial," the female paramedic named Patty explained.
