It is common for people to put on a facade, especially when it holds no real significance. Simple acts of kindness, like a smile or words of praise, can easily deceive those around them. However, sometimes these seemingly harmless gestures can hide something dangerous.
"Why was he having a mental breakdown?" Mia asked dumbly.
"Didn't you hear the whole conversation?" Bryce asked with a grin.
"Even Eden understood what we talking about," Will added.
At Uden Academy, most people knew Eden Weber as the reformed Catholic girl, not the one with a history of criminal behaviour.
"The police remembering Eden had to be the best part," Bryce said. "I didn't even know the documentary was released."
"The police remember me as much as Mia remembers drugs," Eden remarked.
Will smirked. "Meanwhile, Mia gave drugs to a girl who overdosed and had an addiction."
Mia waved a hand dismissively. "Come on, people just need to be more responsible. Everyone knows drugs are bad."
Bryce raised an eyebrow. "Has that ever stopped you?"
"I don't take drugs, duh," Mia said, smirking.
As they walked, Will pushed her onto the highway.
"Don't bully me!" Mia squealed, flailing as she rolled onto her back.
They had all bullied each other in some way. They were not just the crackheads escaping campus and running down to the nearest bus stop. Mia, in particular, had been the target of bullying from Bryce.
"How is that bullying? You just fell down," Bryce retorted.
Eden looked over, narrowing her eyes at a building. "Is that the hospital?" she asked.
"Can we play hospital?" Mia chimed in.
The hospital did not look to be in good condition from the outside. The windows were smashed and the automatic doors that were stuck open. The cars that were once in the parking lot were flipped over and destroyed, reduced to flattened metal.
"Yes," Will agreed as they ran.
They were supposed to be searching for followers, but felt like old times. None of them seemed to care about the potential dangers, because why should they?
"Wait, let's try leaping over this," Mia suggested, pointing at a slanted stop sign. She took off running, but ended up tripping and falling to the ground.
"We all knew that would happen if you ran," Bryce called out.
They stumbled into the darkened hospital, the automatic doors broken. Pink light from outside shone through the windows, casting a glow on the flipped chairs and abandoned wheelchairs in the middle of the lobby.
"I wonder if they have our files here, or if we'll run into anyone we know," Will pondered.
"Where do they even keep files? We were all kept on the rehabilitation floor for a reason," Bryce remarked.
Yes, they had been transferred to the mental health floor. Uden Academy had advised them to stay there after one of their second escapes from school, during which they had gotten into trouble with the police.
According to Heather Harp, who gave the suggestion, it'd calm their behaviour. However, it didn't happen because you cannot change all four of them together.
"Bro, faking that we all turned Jesus crazy had to be the best part," Will implied.
"Adults are just stupid," Eden said.
