The mountains are my home. They always have been and they always will be. I've lived here almost my entire life. They are the only place I feel safe enough to relax. But the mountains are lonely. Not that I mind really. I've never gotten along with most people. They normally just annoy me and I ignore their entire existence, but it's hard. I only go down the mountain for emergencies...like the pregnancy that is pulling me down to the small town at the base of my mountain. My only real friend Nadia, is giving birth to her first child and she wanted me to be there. I'm almost to the town, but I have to stop by their cabin to meet her older sister Hannah so that I can be there in my human form. Hannah and I get along okay, but not as well as Nadia and I.
The town below me is called Haleton. Its considerably small and not many tourist visit, mainly because it's far from the main road. The entire town belongs to the Warren pack. Daniel Warren is the Alpha and Nadia's brother in-law. We don't really get along very well, but he puts up with me for Nadia's sake. I am not a natural born werewolf, which causes a lot of tension between me and the pack members. I was bitten when I was twenty two. But not by a 'normal' werewolf. He was a hybrid; of what? I don't know. Never did find out. He meant to kill me, but didn't finish the job. When I woke up, my family was dead, my home in ashes and I found that I was not human anymore. I retreated to the mountains of course and eventually, a town formed along with a pack. Since I was there first, Daniel's father made me a member but didn't require me to live in the town. How is that possible? From what we've been thinking, the werewolf that bit me, must have been part immortal because I never age. That's another reason the pack member's don't like me. Nadia's mother was the only one who tried to get close to me and would spend weeks with me in my cabin in the mountains. Finally I opened up to her and her mate and we've been friends ever since. That's the only reason why I coming down today.
I reach the cabin and find some clothes sitting on the back porch. I shift and slip the clothes on as quickly as possible, then I knock on the cabin door. A few seconds flew by before Hannah opens the door and smiles slightly.
"Are you ready?" She asked. "Your hair...is a little off though."
I look at my reflection in the window and fix my hair the best I can.
"Ready." I said.
She shut the door and locked it and then we walked to the truck. Once we were inside, she started the engine and we took off towards the hospital.
"Peter called and said that we need to hurry...it's almost time." Hannah said.
I only nodded and stared straight ahead.
Hannah was about the same height as me, maybe a little shorter. She had wavy black hair that met her shoulders and lightly tanned, smooth skin. She had brown eyes like her sister, but Nadia's were a bit bigger. She was thin, but strong.
As we pulled up to the hospital, I noticed a lot of cars. The packs hospital was normally almost empty, but today the parking lot was full.
"Who all is here?" I ask feeling my stomach knot up.
"Almost everyone. I think we're the last ones to arrive." She said and glanced over to me. "We didn't want to tell you there would be a lot of people because she really wanted you here."
I nodded. "I understand, just please warn me next time."
She nodded and parked the truck. There were a few people waiting outside who were already staring at me. We left the truck and walked inside. As I made my way through the building, people avoided and stared at me. This wasn't uncommon, but it was still annoying. We finally found Amelia, Nadia's mother and when she saw me, she smiled.
