The escorts were to remain with us until we boarded the jet in the morning. Huxley was in his own room and he wasn't allowed to leave for any reason until we left. Cade and I had taken turns taking showers. I was already in bed waiting for him to get out. I heard the shower turn off and smiled. It was interesting to think about how much I had changed. I was now incredibly dependent on Cade and it astonished me. I didn't know what I would do if he left. He came out of the bathroom with a pair of shorts and a white shirt. He finished drying off his hair and threw the towel back into the bathroom. He flicked off the lights and walked over to the bed.
"Hey you." He smirked while slipping under the covers.
He turned momentarily and turned off the bedside lamp, descending us into darkness. Soon I was wrapped in his warm embrace. I smiled, relishing the feeling.
"I have a bad feeling about this plan." He says quietly, making me look up at him.
I could just make out his face enough with the artificial light seeping in through the window.
"Why?"
"I can't put my finger on it." He shrugs. "I just don't think we know all the details yet...Huxley went centuries evading capture...he could easily do it again now that we've basically freed him."
"We won't let him."
"I hope you're right."
------
I watched the world outside the car as we drove by. We were almost to the airport.
"How long is the flight?" Huxley asks from the backseat. "I've always wanted to fly in a plane."
"Long enough." I mutter.
"Four or five hours." Cade says glancing at me from the drivers side.
"Exciting." Huxley says softly.
I roll my eyes.
Soon we roll onto the tarmac and park by the hangar. We say our goodbyes to the escorts and Apa begins glueing his eyes on Huxley. We board the plane and Apa makes him sit across from him. We sit on the other side of the plane and I allow Cade to have the window seat. I can see Huxley who is diagonally situated across from me. He's staring out the window. He genuinely looked excited. I briefly smiled slightly forgetting who he was. As soon as the plane began to move, my eyes snapped closed and I gripped Cade's arm.
"Hey." He said in surprise. "Please, for the love of the goddess, do not break my wrist."
The plane took off and I grabbed the armrest instead.
"An angel who's afraid of flying..." Huxley's amused voice caused me to open my eyes.
I scowled. "I'm not afraid of flying." I say through gritted teeth. "I just don't trust these stupid machines."
He smiled and went back to looking out the window. Most of the flight was fine. We still had an hour or so to go when Elder Knight came to our table.
"Daniel just called." He said taking a seat in front of us. "He said that the pack land is surrounded by rogues. They aren't attacking...they're just surrounding the borders."
"What are they doing?" Cade asks.
"Nothing...just waiting for a command." He said shaking his head.
"What's the point in attacking when you aren't there?" Huxley says and we look at him. He's looking at me. "You said it yourself that he was only attacking to get you back...he's waiting for you to get home so you can watch what he has planned for your pack."
