Words are sounds that flood our ears

They can change the way we think

Mischievous they are, giving us fears

And just like people, they can make us sink

Words can build us up, make us towers

They make us strong, triumphant to the weak

Despite these feats, some exploit the power

With their own agendas, and goals they seek

Words can make us crumble, reduce us to rubble

Bringing out our demons, they make us restless

Horrific thoughts invade our head, causing us trouble

And their torment is never ending, endless

Words can pick us up, make us whole again

Filling us with hope, we rise from the ashes

We leave our troubles behind, leave the pain

But all too soon, our tower crashes

The effect words have on us is quite strange

As the words stay the same, the people they touch change
