Notes- (N/N) stands for nickname

To say you were confused when your brother, Foggy, called you up asking for five pounds of chicken would be an understatement. He hadn't talked to you in a month, hell you didn't even live that far away just a simple text or call would have been appreciated, but no.

Sighing you went into the back to get the chicken ready, you would have stayed back there if not for the door opening and the bell ringing.

Going out front you were surprised to see Peter. Peter was a student at Midtown, for some reason he always came to your shop even though there were definitely Butcher shops in Queens. Smiling at the teen you made your way to the front of the shop.

"What can I get for you today Pete?" Peter looked up from your display case and waved at you, his way of acknowledging you were there and saying hello but still being able to remember his order.

"Hey (Y/N), Just a pound of the mozzarella and two pounds of the smoked turkey please." Nodding you get started on his order. It was peaceful as you worked, Peter playing a word game on his phone while you hummed along to the song playing on your old radio.

"Here you go Pete. Don't you forget to tell your Aunt May I said 'Hi'." Peter agrees. After paying he says his own goodbyes and leaves. Sighing, you go around the counter and switch the sign on the door so that nobody would come into the shop while you were working in the back.

After you finished with the chicken you texted your brother telling him you were on the way, locked up the shop, and got everything strapped in on your bike. Living in the city, you didn't really need a car since everything was a walk or subway ride away but when you really felt like it or you had to make a delivery you used your bicycle.

Foggy had texted you the location before you left so you pulled that up and started the ride to the destination. It wasn't until you arrived at the location that you realized where you were, right outside of your brother's "Firm".

Your parents had wanted Foggy and you to become butchers but your brother shot that idea down fast and became a lawyer, having started his own practice with a buddy of his from college. You on the other hand had become a butcher, and a relatively successful one at that.

Grabbing the chicken and locking up your bike you headed inside and up the stairs until you were outside of a door with a sign that said, "Nelson and Murdock Attorneys at Law". You knock on the door before walking in.

"Franklin Percy Nelson if you don't get your ass out here right now and explain why you haven't talked to me in a month I'm going to kick your ass, and you know I can and will!" You stand there in what was almost a waiting room for a few minutes until your brother comes out of one of the offices with a sheepish grin.

You give him a look for a few seconds before setting down the chicken and closing him in a hug, he doesn't hesitate to reciprocate the action. You both laugh for a while before breaking the hug and smacking his arm. "I haven't heard from you for a month and then out of the blue you call me up for shredded chicken?! You better have a good reason or I swear to god."

You were too busy giving your brother a piece of your mind to notice the two other people that had emerged from the office. After finally getting you to calm down Foggy scratched his neck, "You see I would have called you sooner but somebody managed to throw my phone into oncoming traffic and I couldn't remember your number. The shredded chicken on the other hand is for barbecue."

You nodded your head at your doofus of a brother and changed your line of sight to the other two people in the room.

The woman had a confused look plastered to her face while the male didn't show any emotion. You recognized him as Matthew, never having actually met him but having heard enough about him from Foggy where it was kind of a given. You smiled at the two of them and stuck your hand out towards the blonde woman.

"I'm (Y/N), Foggy's sister. I'm not surprised if he hasn't mentioned me before." The woman returned the smile before also returning your handshake, "Karen Page, I work as the boys assistant/receptionist. He's talked about you before but not much, it's nice to finally put a face to the name."

You turned to shake Matthew's hand but he just stood there staring at you. It wasn't until your brother started laughing that you turned to him for answers. "(N/N) I've told you before, Matt's blind."

The look of utter shock that had come across your face was enough to make your brother go into a deeper laughing fit. You turned back towards the man and tried not to throw yourself out of the window, "I'm so sorry, I haven't heard about you in forever so I must have forgotten."

Matthew let out a chuckle before fixing his glasses and standing straighter, "It's okay, worst has happened. It's great to finally hear you though, Foggy is horrible at impressions."

You laughed a little at the comment before talking to your brother some more and helping to set up the chicken for the barbecue. While you were marinating the chicken in some form of sauce that your brother whipped up, the others had started a conversation not even realizing until Karen had called your name.

"So (Y/N), what exactly do you do for work? Foggy told us you work in the family business but he never specified what that is." You finished with the chicken and turned around, leaning back on the counter for support.

"I own a butcher's shop/Deli a couple blocks down from here. Nothing too big, nice and quaint despite it being in manhattan." Your brother let out a laugh before standing and patting you on the back.

"(N/N) here went to University of Houston and got her degree in engineering but somehow ended up as a butcher." You shrugged your shoulders and turned back to check on the chicken only turning back around once Matthew started talking.

"If you don't mind me asking (Y/N), why didn't you become an engineer? I'm sure the pay is much more than what you make now."

You knew he was only asking out of curiosity but when he finished you couldn't help but feel stupid. You knew when you turned down the engineering jobs that you wouldn't be making a lot but you definitely enjoyed the customers and the conversations more than being stuck in the same situation everyday.

"Well Matthew I guess I just like the people more, besides I'm much closer to Foggy and the rest of the family this way." You stated nudging Foggy in the ribs with your elbow. Matt couldn't help but feel bad after asking that question, he could sense your mood change almost immediately after he said it.

He smiled towards you and went to stand up. "I'm sorry, just surprised. Please call me Matt." You nodded your head and drained the excess sauce from the chicken."Well if we're not being formal you can call me (N/N). Now let's get this chicken cooking!"

After cooking and eating most of the chicken with the three friends, you stayed and talked until it got dark. Looking out the window you finally realized how late it was and went to get up, "Although I'm really enjoying this I'm going to have to head home. The weirdos come out at night and I'm not trying to have some creepy old man asking to see my feet coming after me. Again."

Foggy chuckled while Matt's eyebrow shot up after hearing you say Again. "Would you like me to walk you home?" You smiled but shook your head no.

"I'll be fine Matt but thank you, besides I rode my bike here and I still have my knife this oaf got me as a grand opening gift." Matt seemed hesitant but accepted your answer and excused himself to finish up some paperwork. You hugged your brother goodbye and made plans to hang out with Karen again before leaving.

You rode home thinking about a certain blind lawyer while unbeknownst to you he watched from the rooftops just to make sure you got home safe.
