It had been two weeks since the incident in the diner and five days since you had last seen Frank Castle. You weren’t entirely complaining cause wherever he went trouble followed but you had seemingly started to miss Frank.

It was weird, you know, but after seeing him in the diner that night you remembered how it was during your time in Iraq with Frank and missed it or maybe you had just hit your head on something. You were buying groceries from the market down the street when you had most recently seen Frank. As you were walking down an aisle you had spotted a glimpse of what looked like him, it wasn’t until you had walked into the next aisle over that you made contact with him.

You had opened your mouth to say something when he had just walked off, you shook the encounter off and continued your shopping until a bullet pierced through the glass of the shop window. Immediately dropping to the ground you looked out into the street to see a man standing at one end while a car stayed parked at the other end. It only took you a minute to realize it was Frank Castle facing off against the car. It had ended with the car blowing up but everyone in the market was fine but Frank had walked away before you could talk to him.

Frank had been tailing you for eight days, he was ashamed to admit it but he had somehow grown attached to you. You two had been friends during his military days but it had been nothing more than that but he had Maria and the kids. He had promised himself after losing them that he would never put anyone through that again but when he saw you on the ground in the diner coughing up blood, his heart couldn’t handle it.

At first, it was just making sure you got home safe if you were ever out at night but now if he wasn’t on one of his punisher missions he would make sure you were safe during the day too. He couldn’t say it without sounding like a hypocrite but you didn’t do much, sure you did shopping but that was only once a week if necessary. The only other thing you went to was VO meetings and you didn’t even stay the whole time for those.

Frank let his eyes close as the sun had finally set, you were working today and hadn’t yet gotten out. Opening his eyes Frank noticed that you had finally locked up the shop and left. He followed from the rooftops as you made the trek home.

You had been two streets away from your apartment when you had turned off onto a new street and walked into a diner. Frank let out a sigh, he knew that he would be up on the rooftop for longer than he wanted if he stayed up here. He contemplated going in and buying a cup of coffee.

Sitting down in a booth You wait for the waitress to come back with a menu as the bell on the door rings. Looking up you notice Frank Castle walking towards your booth, a confused look coming onto your face. As he sat down the waitress came and put down your menu, “Do you need to, sir?” Frank nods his head as the waitress leaves again, turning to you as you look through the menu.

“So why are you finally talking to me after tailing me forever.”

Frank had sat up straighter once you confronted him, “How’d you know I’d been tailing you?” It was the first time in a year you had heard Frank talk, you missed the smooth southern accent.

“Your boots aren’t the quietest things on the earth besides I could see you now and then.”

Frank stayed silent as the waitress delivered his menu and walked off towards another table. “How long have you known?”

You thought for a second before responding, “Ever since that standoff outside the market.” Neither of you said anything as you looked through the menus, only talking when the waitress came back to get your orders.

“So how have you been since Iraq?” Frank watched as you drew on your napkin with a pen you had pulled out of your satchel.

“You should know since you’ve been following me.” Frank let out a chuckle at your response and moved to take off his coat, “Not that closely. You do seem happy though, minus not sleeping much.”

You laugh at the statement and go back to your drawing, “I’ve been okay, VO meetings help but they’re slightly annoying. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you at a meeting, do you go?”

Frank shook his head you didn’t see it though, “No, I’ve got my way of dealing with things.” Looking up from your drawing you look down at his outfit.

“So do you wear the vest twenty-four seven or just at night?”

Frank shrugged as the waitress brought you dinner and Franks coffee. He looked down at your napkin to see a drawing of a nose, it was broken in some places as it had an abrupt bump right on the bridge, it was familiar but he didn’t know where he had seen it before till it hit him.

“Did you draw my nose?” Looking up from your (F/F) you nodded your head and took a minute before swallowing.

“Your nose is fun to draw. I used to doodle when I wasn’t doing anything.” Frank put down his coffee as you went back to eating, staring at you for a minute before you noticed, “What?”

Frank shook his head again while a small smile made its way to his face, “It’s nothing.” The two of you sat in silence until you had finished eating. As the waitress put down the bill Franks's hand went to grab it, you slammed your fork down right next to where his hand was about to be before placing down money and putting a tip next to it.

“I’ll probably see you again but so long Frank.”

Frank had sat there for a while after you left only getting up once the waitress had come to collect the bill. Standing to leave he grabbed your napkin, not to be creepy or anything it was just the first time anyone had drawn something like that.

It was only then that he noticed your phone number scribbled underneath the drawing with a smiley face next to it.
