Letting out a laugh you walk over to where Sam lay on the ground, groaning as he held his stomach.

“I’ve beaten you twice in a row now, Wilson. I say it’s time we stop.”

Sam let out a strained breath as he got up, “Nope. I’m not leaving until I beat you.” You smile at the man’s drive and take a sip out of your water bottle. Sam had fully stood up and had gotten into a fighting stance, waiting for you to make the first move before he did anything.

Putting down your water bottle you fix the tape on your hands and turn back to Sam. A few minutes pass before either of you move, you being the one to make the first move. Running at Sam, he prepared himself to grab your punch when you threw it but was surprised when you slid past him and managed to get the back of his knee. As he dropped to the ground you stood up and waited for him to get up.

“Don’t go easy on me now, (L/N).”

He stands up as you smirk, “I would never Wilson.”

This time Sam runs at you as you stand at attention, looking down you notice his hand turn into a fist, and prepare yourself for the blow. Sam is thrown off when you don’t block the punch but take it right to your abdomen. You don’t give him any time to fix himself after he punches you, grabbing his arm you twist it and bring him to his knees.

Kicking his back you laugh as he lays there defeated, “Well Wilson, that's another win for me. I have to say you were somewhat of a worthy adversary.”

Your laughing stops as you realize that Sam isn’t moving.

“Wilson?” You lightly nudge his side with your foot but he still doesn’t move, getting to your knees you flip him over and check his pulse. You're surprised to find that his pulse is beating, had you knocked him out?

To say you’re surprised when Sam’s eyes shoot open and he grabs your arms. Sam pushes you onto the ground and pins down your arms so you can’t fight it. Sam laughs unbeknownst to the awkwardness of the position or the look on your face.

Sam looked down to see why you were being so quiet but was surprised to find you with a weird look on your face and somewhat of a red tint on your lips. Truth be told the two of you had been crushing on each other since Sam had joined the Avengers but both of you were quite oblivious when it came to your feelings.

Instead of moving you both sat there staring at each other, the only movement was the heaving of your chest and Sam slowly leaning down. It was only when he was around 20 centimeters away from your face that you realized he was going to kiss you.

Your mind was going a mile a minute as you thought about the possibility of this being real, coming up with nothing you did what seemed like the best thing to do. Punch Sam in the face. He rolled to the side and right off of you immediately after your fist made contact with his face. Jumping up you grab your things and leave, Sam calling your name while the bruise on his cheek begins to surface.

~ Two months later ~

You had been avoiding him whenever you could. He had come running out of the room after you left but couldn’t find you, having taken refuge behind a corner you let out a sigh of relief when he passed. He had given up trying to talk to you after a week of you running from him, the only time you did talk to him was on missions.

You were in charge of cooking dinner that night and everything was going surprisingly well, you were turned towards the stove stirring a pot when the door opened. Thinking it was Wanda, who had said she would help you with a harder bit in the recipe, you smiled before letting out a laugh.

“I thought I was going to have to start without you and we both know that dinner would be ruined if that happened.”

You were confused when she didn’t respond and when you turned around you wished you hadn’t. There stood Sam with a soft smile on his face and an apron on, “I’m afraid that I’m not Wanda. She had to do something with Vision and sent me instead.”

Nodding your head you turn back to the stove in hopes that you can cook in silence. For the first few minutes, it was quiet until the recipe needed four hands instead of two.

“Could you please help me with this?”

Sam smiled at you as he nodded his head and walked towards you to see what you needed help with. Helping you through the tough part Sam noticed that you seemed to step away from him anytime he got close. It was when you finished that he finally asked you about it.

“Are you okay? You don’t talk to me and you're stepping away from me whenever I come close to you.”

Looking Sam in the face you noticed that he had a hurt look on his face and seemed to be concerned. You didn’t know how to explain to him that you wish he had kissed you that day or how you didn’t want it to be awkward whenever you two were together.

“I’m fine, just tired.”

Giving Sam a smile he accepted your response and went back to cooking. You were relieved when he didn’t question you more, it had given you more time to think about how to talk to him about the incident. You didn’t have to worry about that though.

“Can we talk about what happened in the training room? We don’t have to but I feel like it’s caused a strain in our relationship.”

He sounded strained like he didn’t know if he should have said it but you couldn’t be happier that he did. You thought for a second while stirring the pot before speaking, “I shouldn’t have punched you that day, I had just been too in my head and I freaked out.”

Sam shook his head and turned towards you, “It was all my fault. I shouldn’t have tried to kiss you, I shouldn’t have asked you to practice with me that day.” Leaving the pot on your stovetop to simmer you turned to face Sam just as he was you.

“God no, I wish I had let you kiss me. I just thought you were messing with me and so I punched you so I hurt you before I could make a fool out of myself.”

Sam had gotten this look halfway through your answer that made you feel like you were the dumbest person in the world.

“Jesus Christ (Y/N). I would never do that to you, god I’ve liked you for what feels like forever now.”

Hearing Sam says that he liked you was just what you needed to forget about whatever you were cooking and kiss Sam completely, he didn’t hesitate to return the kiss. A few seconds had passed before your privacy was interrupted by a cough.

Separating yourself from Sam you saw Wanda standing in the doorway with a smirk plastered on her face, “First I have to help Vision clean up paprika and now I walk in on you two kissing. How weird can this day get?”

Sam let out a laugh before smiling at you and going to set the table for dinner. As soon as he was gone Wanda’s eyebrow shot up in confusion, “I thought you hated Sam.”

You smiled as you turned back to the dinner.

“I don’t think I could ever hate him”
