"Come with me Sia, I really have to show you the baby cats!" shouted Sandy euphorically.

No sooner had Saskia stood up than the little girl grabbed her hand and impatiently pulled her out through the hallway into the open. They walked across the yard over to the stables. As they entered, the familiar smell of the animals immediately hit her nose, mixed with freshly mowed grass.

She didn't even have time to look around a bit and greet the animals. Then Sandy pulled her further back into the barn, into a hidden corner behind two bales of straw stacked on top of each other. There, in the loosely lying straw, was already the nest in which the little kittens lay with their mother.

"Look Sia, the four cats came into the world two weeks ago," Sandy spoke in a whisper and looked delightedly at the little family that lay there safe and sound.

Saskia looked just as enamored at the little balls of fur snuggling up to their mother. The four little rascals had all kinds of colors and were thus lucky kittens.

The two had sat down in the straw right next to them. Carefully each took a little kitten in their hand, they gently stroked the soft fur. Saskia had taken one that was red striped with black feet and a large white spot on its forehead. After stroking it for a while, however, she preferred to give it back.

The mother cat didn't seem to mind and just kept glancing at her babies in a controlling manner, occasionally cleaning them. The two stayed there for a long time, watching the little family, until they decided to explore the stable together.

Saskia wanted to get an overview of Sam's current animal population. The sheep's compartment was empty, as they were grazing in the field.

Only three goats stood in their stall and lazily lay around. Only when she stepped closer, they stood up curiously to see what was going on. They bleated and stuck their heads through the opening of their stable door. Saskia picked up a small pile of fresh grass and placed it with the animals. With relish they began to eat the grass stalks.

Sandy, however, was already getting impatient and pulled her hand again. "What? Can't I even spend some time with the goats, or is there something important you need to show me?" she asked Sandy, amused at her impatience.

"Yes, I wanted to look at the other animals!" she replied firmly and they continued walking together.

After an extensive tour of the small estate, they returned to the house. Saskia spent another fun day with the three of them. She enjoyed the short time they had together to the fullest.

Tired, she went to her room in the evening. She didn't want to go to sleep too late, because she really wanted to go to the seaside with Sam in the morning.

Lionel had returned from his long ride. It was only when the sun had begun to set that he had decided to go. He had managed to clear his mind after all, but it had not been as long as today for ages.

He dismounted Icarus and took him to the stable boy so that he would take care of the stallion. Somewhat tired and exhausted, he walked out of the stables, followed by his gaggle of hounds, and strode to a side entrance. Once back in his hall, he gave his faithful companions a few more strokes, but then went upstairs to his room. He was eager to take a shower. He didn't really like smelling like a stable, and besides, he was a little sweaty.

After getting rid of all his clothes, he strode straight into his opulent bathroom, which had gold-plated fixtures. But he didn't notice this luxury at all, it was all so natural to him already. Lionel stood under the huge rain shower and began to wash himself with his shower gel and shampoo his hair.

When he finished his personal care, he walked around his room naked as usual. He loved to walk through his rooms free of all his clothes. The servants knew exactly where they were allowed to go and where not. Thus he had no unwanted visits.

Lionel wanted to make himself comfortable and, as he often did, went to his bar and opened his refrigerator. He took out a bottle of champagne and popped the cork. He poured himself a full glass and immediately took a few sips. He enjoyed the sparkling drink and sat down on his huge sofa.

The lord pondered over his future book, he wanted to have a few of his most valuable paintings printed this time. He also wanted to have a few of his animals in it. Leonardo, for example, or a few of his beautiful peacocks. He had no shortage of ideas, he was constantly trying to develop and improve himself. Although he was already 57 years old, he did not want to retire yet.

Of course, he occasionally missed the closeness of another person, but if this feeling became too intense, he immediately threw himself into new projects or occupied himself with his animals. Under no circumstances did he want to be tied down to someone else; he had seen where that led. But he didn't need affairs either, they only gave him a headache. Besides, he hated women who behaved cheaply and were only after his money and with whom one could not even talk about simple topics of conversation.

He quickly shook off the thoughts, preferring to think about his book again. He would use the weekend beginning tomorrow for it and work out general plans for it.

But for today he would leave it alone. Tired from the day, he stood up sluggishly and yawned heartily. Carelessly, he put the empty champagne glass down in the next best place. Tomorrow someone would already take care of this matter and clean his room.

Lionel went to his huge bed and slipped under the large comforter. No sooner had he made himself comfortable than Gem trotted up to his bed and jumped up. She secured a comfortable spot on the blanket, as she does every night, and closed her eyes just like Lionel.
