While Mihai nervously sat at the wheel and drove toward Wolferton, Lionel sat next to him and leafed through various documents to memorize the circumstances on location once again. A housekeeper would be waiting for him there, so he could also get into the property.
As the driver entered the village of Wolferton, he unconsciously kept an eye out to see if he would happen to spot Saskia anywhere. But fortunately, she was not walking in the area. He drove to the edge of town, where it was even more secluded. He turned off the main road and drove along a beautifully landscaped avenue.
The house with its stables stood alone in a wide open space, surrounded by trees and lush greenery.
Mihai stopped in the driveway and got out together with his boss. The latter looked closely at the facade and what he saw he liked quite a bit. Lionel walked around the outside of the house and wandered through the small garden where vegetables and herbs were planted. Just off the garden was a back entrance that led directly into the utility kitchen. Lionel went to the door and tried to open it, which he succeeded in doing, because it was not locked.
Slowly he stepped inside and surveyed the large room. So far, everything seemed to be in good shape here and he went on. Lionel paced room by room until he reached the bedrooms upstairs, there he stepped into the master bedroom.
Daylight flooded through the large windows, making the room seem bright and cheerful. It didn't contain much, just a closet and a large double bed with nightstands. He stepped closer to one of the windows and opened it. The wonderful smell of the sea and lush meadows entered his nose. From here one could see all the way to the sea, which definitely had its charm.
Lost in thought, he looked at the landscape in front of him, but did not notice it at all. He was far too absorbed in thinking about Sassy. What was she doing right now? Did she already have a new job, or even another partner? Was that why she had left? Lionel shook off the unwanted thoughts and closed the window. He would check out the rest of the rooms upstairs and then visit the stables.
Mihai, in the meantime, was still pacing nervously, up and down in the open. What was he going to do? Somehow he wanted to help his boss, but somehow he didn't want to. After all, he should want it on his own to win Sia back over.
While Lionel had gone down from the upper floor, he had met the housekeeper and asked him a few questions about the estate. Now he stepped out of the main entrance into the open and continued to look around.
He saw his driver walking restlessly back and forth, he was just wondering again what this one had today. Usually Mihai was calm himself, but something was up with him since they had driven here to Wolferton.
Lionel had enough of the strange behavior and decided to address him: "Mihai! What is going on with you today? Ever since we went to Wolferton, you've been acting so strange. Can you tell me what it's because of?"
The chauffeur almost jumped out of his suit in shock and quickly turned in the direction his boss was standing.
He ran his hands through his hair and tried to come up with a meaningful answer: "Nothing's wrong, Mr. Shahbandar."
"Stop this fuss and tell me the truth already!" demanded Lionel sternly.
Sooner or later his boss would find out anyway that Saskia's current residence was here in Wolferton. If he didn't tell him the truth now, he might get dragged into their emotional mess as well. And to him, the current situation was already enough.
"I'm waiting!" blurted Lionel, interrupting Mihai in his own thoughts.
"Saskia ..." he began to speak.
"What about Sassy?", his boss interrupted him immediately, who had now stepped even closer to him and fixed him with an unassessable gaze.
Mihai swallowed nervously and tried to collect himself. "Saskia is currently here in Wolferton staying at relatives," he choked out as Shahbandar looked at him more and more demanding.
"Excuse me?!" the lord gushed in surprise, "how do you know this Mihai?"
"She asked me the very night of the party to drive her to the train station. But I didn't want to drop her there in the middle of the night, so I offered to drive her home, or wherever she wanted to go. And it was not the apartment in London, but a farm here with her relatives," the driver explained the situation.
Lionel was speechless at first, but quickly regained his composure. "You mean she lives close by here?" he asked, wanting it confirmed just to be sure.
"Yes, that's right," Mihai answered, nervously scuffing the pebbles with his patent leather shoes. He was already preparing for a huge thunder storm, but none came.
Lionel thought sharply. He would have preferred to go to her relatives right now, but he had to think of something. Saskia would certainly not let herself be persuaded so easily to come along with him again. Above all, he still didn't know what exactly was the cause of the whole dilemma with her now. "So that's how it is. Then maybe you can also tell me what was the reason Saskia left?" he inquired calculatingly.
Mihai squirmed like a worm inside, he didn't want to betray Sia, so he appealed to his boss's mind. He scraped together all his courage and now stood up to his boss with this statement, "Yes, I know, but I won't tell you! If you review certain situations in your mind, you'll figure out why she left. And you know what Mister Shahbandar? Saskia was damn right! You know that I am actually very reserved with my opinion. But you screwed up and that's only because another woman was more important to you!" Oh no, Mihai thought to himself. In his fury, in which he had become louder and louder, he had blurted out more than he really wanted to after all.
Lionel looked at his driver with wide eyes. He had never seen him so angry. Let alone that he had ever been approached by him. Mihai's words rattled through his head and made no sense to him at first.
"Another woman," he muttered to himself, running his fingers through his gray hair. At first he thought of his ex-wife, but that made absolutely no sense. When Lionel suddenly remembered the kisses of Misses Puznowski!
