When they had finished their work, they went into the house, drank tea and rested a bit.
Later, as they sat comfortably by the fireplace in the dining room, drinking a glass of red wine, Saskia felt a little woozy. "Oh Lionel, I am so stupid! I was so happy I forgot that I had taken a medicine earlier! You're not supposed to drink alcohol on medication," Sia whined in shock, immediately setting the half-full wine glass down at the table.
"Would you like to lie down? I'd be happy to help you into the bedroom," Lionel immediately replied with concern, not having an ulterior motive.
"No, I think it would be better if you drove me back to my current home. Besides, I told Melly I'd be back today. Lionel don't be mad at me, but let's slow things down a bit. The situation with Puznowski really got to me," she explained to him.
Inwardly a bit disappointed about the situation, Lionel complied. So, as befitted a gentleman, he said, "All right, just let me get the car keys quickly and I'll help you in a minute." He knew he had to give her all the time in the world now to avoid losing her again. He had been stupid enough as it was, and had let her down enough times already. He wanted to avoid all possible mistakes he had made in the past.
Quickly he came back into the living room and helped Sia up, who immediately clung to him. "Careful, we don't want you to hurt yourself," Lionel murmured into her hair as he pressed her against him to keep her from staggering back.
As usual, she was as stubborn as a donkey. It would have been much easier to get her into a bed here now than to drive her back extra. But he didn't want to put the fresh relationship to the test just yet. He would still find plenty of opportunities to discuss anything with her. No, he certainly wouldn't get bored in this relationship.
Lionel had finally managed to get Sassy into the car. Immediately he drove her to her relatives. He didn't want to let her go in alone, though, who knows she would stumble over the stairs. He walked around his car and helped her get out again.
Slowly he walked with her to the front door and pressed the bell as soon as they were in front of it. It wasn't long before Sam was standing at the door looking at them both in amazement. Lionel quickly explained the situation so as not to cause any misunderstanding.
Sam told him where to take Saskia, who was already leaning against Lio, half asleep. Carefully, he pushed her up the stairs and went into the room with her. "Lionel, your kisses back then with the American girl, hurt me. My heart broke into a thousand pieces when I saw that," she murmured against his chest.
"Saskia, I'm sorry, I didn't mean it at the time. She blindsided me and I reacted the wrong way. I pulled her into the foyer of the hotel afterwards and reprimanded her, explaining that I wasn't interested," Lionel affirmed, stroking her hair reassuringly.
"Come on, let me help you into your pajamas and then you can lie down. If you want, I can pick you up tomorrow," he suggested.
Saskia nodded feebly and allowed herself to be undressed by Lionel. He helped her into her pajamas, which were already lying by the bed. Lio flipped the comforter aside, maneuvered her in, and covered her up. He still sat at the edge of the bed and stroked Sia's cheek. Lio watched Sia as she slowly drifted off to sleep. He got up carefully, gave her a gentle kiss on the forehead, adjusted her blanket, and then left the room.
As quietly as he could, he went downstairs and said a quick goodbye to Sam and Melly.
Lionel drove back to the stud farm, because he didn't want to go back to his estate today. He sat down by the fireplace once more and let today wander through his thoughts.
He had risked everything and laid out all his feelings in front of Saskia. For once, it had really paid off to let his heart do the thinking. But what was to happen in the future now? He needed her again as an assistant at his side and she had agreed to that. The best thing would be for her to move in with him, then Sassy could travel to London with him every day for work.
Occasionally they could also spend a long weekend here in Wolferton. He hoped she would agree to all this. He would ask her tomorrow, it would also be more convenient for them both. Of course, if she wanted, she could continue to have her own room. The Lady's, as she was now entitled to it. Even if they were not married, she still belonged to him already.
Lionel had become quite tired from his long brooding. When he looked at the clock, he decided that it was finally time to go to sleep. After all, he didn't want to oversleep and visit Saskia tomorrow. He fervently hoped that she would feel better soon!
Saskia woke up quite early the next day. She felt much better today, maybe it was because Lionel had put her to bed. She was looking forward to seeing him again today.
She went to the bathroom, freshened up and went downstairs to the kitchen. Since it was Saturday morning, Sandy didn't have to go to school either, so she was already sitting at the table with a coloring book, filling in the pre-printed animals with crayons. "Good morning Sia, will you help me here?" the little girl asked happily when she saw Saskia coming.
"I'd love to! What can I color?" she answered and waited for Sandy's reaction. She immediately pushed another coloring book towards her, which had pictures of different animals that existed on the farm. Sia took a few colors from the pile of crayons and began to color a cow, drawing a few spots on its fur.
