Zaidenweber, however, did not let himself be distracted any further and continued to talk blithely, still convinced of himself. Saskia only listened with one ear, in case he still said something that she would have to write down.

Fortunately, she was allowed to choose the main course herself, otherwise she would probably have had to drive home hungry. The mussels had gone back untouched, Lionel hadn't eaten them either, probably he had lost his appetite after the art curator's stupid remark.

Saskia exhaled in relief when the waiter finally served the main course, maybe the human waterfall across from her would shut up for once. She would have loved to stuff a fork full of salad into his mouth.

The Ceasar Salad looked delicious, immediately she picked up her cutlery and began to eat in a mannerly fashion. Her stomach had already rebelled, since she had eaten almost nothing today, it was about time that she finally ate something.

The salad tasted excellent, but the hoped-for peace at the table had not arrived. Zaidenweber began to talk about his current job: "The Baron's collection is dramatically Flemish. Titian, Rubens, all the women in the paintings are so insanely juicy and heavy, not my taste at all!" he spoke unapologetically. He indicated the overweight women's bodies with his hands and rolled his eyes.

Saskia became more and more uncomfortable with the situation. Was this unsympathetic guy trying to tell her something? Automatically she felt herself attacked by his statements. Even though she had long since learned that one should not take everything personally, this unnecessary statement on his part annoyed her insanely. Meanwhile she had put away the cutlery and waited what else this idiot would give from himself.

Then he already continued: "Women of such immensity, no, I prefer the impressionistic works.

Saskia's collar just burst, she couldn't hold her mouth any longer, this chatter was insulting. "Just because a woman's body doesn't conform to your idealistic dreams and demands it's automatically bad? Is that what you' re trying to convey?" she growled more than she spoke, glaring at him angrily.

After her report, Lionel's gaze immediately shot to Saskia, whose eyes glittered aggressively and her cheeks were once again slightly flushed. Her posture was on the attack. Tensely, he raised his eyebrows and looked back and forth between the two.

Zaidenweber's mouth stayed open for a moment, he hadn't expected any interruption and certainly not one like this. "W- Well, you can't say that exactly...", he tried to save himself from this unpleasant situation. His gaze went to Lionel in search of help, but he only seemed amused and didn't intend to reprimand his assistant or help him.

"So, what can't you say for sure? That you find fat women ugly and they are not worth giving them a second look? Let alone get to know their character?" she shot bluntly at Zaidenweber.

Saskia took a sip from her water glass and set it down louder than necessary. Slowly, she realized that she had exceeded her authority. For sure she had to expect at least a reprimand from her boss and that would be the least evil of her outburst. She was probably out of a job as well, since she had no right to attack a possible future colleague. It had simply gone through with her. One negative quality she unfortunately possessed was that she sometimes reacted too impulsively. In general, when it came to appearance, she was rather sensitive.

It had become quiet at the table. Zaidenweber poked at his remaining food and Lionel didn't say a word either. Saskia had her eyes fixed on her fingers tangled together. She was only waiting for the storm that usually came after the silence.

But this one did not come. "I think it's better we end the conversation for today, for the moment Deane is still at his position anyway. We will set a new appointment in a month or two, my assistant Saskia will contact you about this," Lionel spoke in a calm tone, stunning everyone at the table, including himself.

Zeitenweber was horrified that his maybe future boss didn't seem to reprimand his assistant and also about the fact that he might not have a job after all, since he had actually been so sure already....

Saskia was shocked that this meeting took such a turn, but she was not naive. For sure, the thunderstorm would follow, only the lord probably didn't want to cause a stir here.

Lionel was surprised at himself. His usual procedure would have been to put his assistant in her place, but somehow he had not wanted to do that. He had seen, as he watched her, that she had taken Zaidenweber's statement personally. He himself had not been bothered by the statements, but the curator's mental attitude had not suited him. After all, he didn't want to hire a second Deane who might call someone a chubby girl.

Annoyed, Lionel tossed the cloth napkin that had been on his lap onto the table. This was not at all how he had envisioned tonight's dinner. He pushed back his chair and stood up, looking down at his assistant who was still seated. "Come on, let's go," he said to her, continuing to look at Zaidenweber, "I'll see you at another appointment, you' ll get the notice."

Lionel walked out the door with Saskia without saying anything, the restaurant staff would already send him the bill, as they always do. Again he opened the door of the limousine, which was still in front of the restaurant. But Saskia did not get in, questioningly he looked at her.

"I'll take the bus home from here," she began to speak after seeing his questioning look.

"Such nonsense!", Lionel immediately objected, "at this hour you don't go around alone at all, just tell Mihai your address and we'll drop you off in front of it", he ended his monologue without expecting any backtalk.

"I'm not a child anymore, I can still manage to ride a bus by myself and besides, I need some fresh air after this dinner," Saskia objected, thinking to herself at the same time that this statement was now the second mistake of the evening.

"I know that very well, that you are not a child anymore," he spoke darkly and seemed to stab her with his brown eyes, but at the same time something else was mixed in his gaze. Saskia couldn't really interpret it, apparently she had reached a limit.

"If you need fresh air, you can open the window. Don't keep testing my patience today and get in now, please," Lionel tried to say as neutrally as possible. His assistant had hit a nerve. Normally, all women were eager to go for a ride with him in the limousine. She, however, was as stubborn as a donkey, but somehow he liked that too.

On the one hand, she possessed an impudence that one had to dare to have, on the other hand, he was looking for someone who could exist next to him in the long run. Still he did not know himself so exactly, how he would deal with it in the future, if there were not other feelings that sometimes crept quietly to his thoughts.
