Lionel knew that this day could no longer be saved. Now he apparently no longer had an assistant, which didn't really bother him because she had been incompetent anyway. He immediately sat down at his glass desk and pressed a speed dial button on his desk phone. "Come to my office immediately!" he barked into the receiver and hung up.
Barely a minute later, the employee who usually conducted the interviews stormed into his office. Lionel didn't even let him enter the room properly before he shot him a look: "What kind of incompetent assistant have you saddled me with?" Lionel looked at him angrily and waited for a plausible answer.
"Well...", the employee tried to explain.
When someone started to talk in such an uncertain way, it was Lionel's job. He would have liked to crush such people under his expensive designer shoes or strangle them with his sinfully expensive tie!
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN! Get to the point! Or can't you articulate properly anymore, you moron! What's wrong with all the staff today?" he shouted at the man.
The man turned white as a cheese and took a deep breath and began to explain: "Evi was visually the best choice, but..."
Again Lionel didn't let the employee finish and interrupted: "What do you mean 'visually' the best choice? Are you saying you didn't hire my assistant for her qualifications?"
There wasn't much left and his boss would burst, the employee knew that very well. Therefore, he tried to explain how it had happened, which was a huge mistake.
"Evi sat here in front at the desk to look good visually. But the reports and important analyses until now were always done by Saskia in the background, in the office next to Harry Deane. She has the perfect qualifications for the job, but she's just, well, how to put it...", the man made such funny hints with his hands, "she's just ugly and too fat", he quickly concluded.
Lionel didn't think he had heard right just then. "Ugly and too fat?" he repeated what he had just said. He just had to think of the employee whose office had been empty earlier today. He gave the man a withering look and said in a dangerously calm tone, "From now on she sits outside my office, I don't give a shit what someone looks like. It's my reports I need. Now I also realize why it hadn't always worked. And you better get out of here for today too. Oh, and fire that Evi right now." He indicated with his hand that the latter should now leave his office.
As soon as the unnecessary idiot had disappeared from his office, Lionel took a deep breath and stood up. Restlessly he walked back and forth along the glass front. Again and again he ran his hand through his silvery hair and thought. "Too ugly and too fat," he muttered to himself. " Just unbelievable something like that," he continued, lost in thought. You wouldn't get very far in life with that attitude, and besides, she wasn't ugly at all. But what did he really care about how she looked? Right, not at all. She had to fulfill his tasks and do it flawlessly, that was what he wanted and needed. He didn't give a damn about anything else, or so he thought.
When Lionel had calmed down, he sat down on his office chair again and went through his mails. That too, he thought to himself, groaning inwardly. The idiot had written to him that Saskia was on vacation. Was he really surrounded only by bunglers anymore? It was absolutely enough for him for today, although he hadn't even been sitting here for half a day. He looked at his schedule, he had none.
Lionel now did something completely unusual for him. He called Mihai to pick him up. As soon as he had done that, he stormed out of the office. He needed to get some fresh air, he needed a distraction! He walked quickly through the office complex outside, towards the limo.
It seemed like hours when the Rolls-Royce finally pulled up to his estate. "Mihai, see to it that the stable boy saddles my stallion!" determined Lionel without waiting for an answer and stormed out of the car.
The butler was already holding the door open for him, and without a greeting he strode past him. He immediately went upstairs to his dressing room. There he took off everything except his underwear and socks and took out his riding clothes. Finally, he put on his riding boots and immediately went downstairs and back outside. Today he left his cap off, he needed to feel the wind in his hair. Quickly he walked along the path to the stables, his stallion already waiting in front of the open gate.
When Lionel saw Icarus standing there, he immediately relaxed and his inner anger instantly subsided. He went to him and stroked his neck, patting it lightly. The lord climbed into the stirrup, swung himself into the saddle and took the reins.
Slowly Lionel rode along the driveway, towards the forest path. His hunting dogs were out at the moment, and he could hear them barking cheerfully from a distance. With a loud whistle he drew attention to himself and the pack ran towards him. Excitedly, the dogs circled Icarus and waited impatiently for new commands. But Lionel gave none, he simply let them run alongside, preferring to spur his stallion to an easy gallop. He enjoyed the fresh country air and the wind in his hair.
His mood was getting better and better, yet he couldn't quite forget today's events. The thing with his assistant disturbed him enormously. Now it became clear to him why he had received the folder from Saskia. Why hadn't he thought of it before? But actually he didn't care about these things, but why did they do it this time? He did not know.
Too ugly and too fat, these words were running through his mind for the hundredth time now and again he saw in his mind's eye the situation when he had watched Saskia at the desk. Angry at himself and his annoying thoughts, he shook his head.
In the meantime he had arrived in the forest and he tried once again to get his thoughts free, in which he enjoyed the nature and the contact with his animals.
