Is a stupid bet I made with Peter enough to make me avoid the person I want to talk with the most?

Yes.

Am I stupid enough to go through with it?

Heck yes.

That was exactly what I was doing the next day at school, trying to avoid Zeke. Out of all the days, why should today be the day I get to see him literally everywhere?! I even had to hide in one of the classrooms to avoid bumping into him.

It took every inch of my self-restraint to do something like this; so unlike me.

But I had to prove to Pete, that I can do this, then again at the same time it felt like I knew it was not really possible but I had to try anyway? Because I need to get over Zeke.

"You came super later to school today," Paige commented, typing away in her laptop, not taking her eyes off it.

"Yeah, I'm turning over a new leaf." I replied.

We were sitting on the lawn near the parking lot, bunking P.E.

"What kind of leaf?" She asked.

"I made a deal with Pete. I want to prove to him that I can get over Zeke as fast as I fell in love with him."

Paige turned to look at me and inched her glasses up her nose.

"Do you think it'll work?" She asked.

"It should. It must."

She looked at me skeptically and kept her laptop aside.

"But why now? Zeke likes you back now and wasn't that something you had always wanted?"

I frowned.

"Yes. Zeke doesn't like me the way I like him. He just wants to hit on me for now, and that's all it would ever be to him. It'd be like a summer fling from the movies, and I don't want that."

Paige remained quiet for a while before answering.

"I can understand that, oh, speak of the devil."

I quickly look back at what she was looking. More like whom she was looking at.

Zeke was walking over to us with a smile on his face.

"Hey, I was looking for you," he said and crouched.

"Er really? Why?" I uttered.

"To hit on you of course." He shrugged.

My face felt hot and I tried not to get flustered.

Boy is he blunt.

"I'll leave you two be," Paige smiled politely at Zeke, picked up her bag and laptop, stood up and flashed her wide eyes at me, mouthing a 'good luck.'
