"I want a hamster," I mused.
Peter chuckled, the smoke coming out of his nose and mouth.
"That's the most random thing I've ever heard," he uttered, between short laughs.
We were lying on the roof of my house, lazing around and looking at stars, something we do once in a while. It sort of became an unspoken tradition after I found Peter sneaking up here to smoke.
"No, I'm serious," I looked at him, resting my weight on my elbow.
He looked at me and rolled his eyes, taking another nonchalant drag.
"Fine, we'll get you one tomorrow," he shrugged.
"There's that rich boy attitude I love," I patted his chest with a grin.
He laughed.
"What are you naming it?" He asked.
"Ham-cheese."
"I want to get a dog."
"Fine, we'll get you one tomorrow."
"There's that rich girl attitude I love."
I laughed.
"What are you naming it?" I asked.
"Egg-noodles."
He deadpanned.
We looked at each other without saying a word and chortled loudly a minute later.
"What the heck was that?" I wheezed. "Egg-noodles?!"
He continued laughing loudly, his body shaking uncontrollably.
I shake my head and sit up, leaning back on my hands, looking at the prominent Orion's Belt above us. The sky was bright with the stars aligned in random places, as if they were watching us and not the other way around.
What would stars think about us?
'Oh there she did it again, so stupid. Why can't she just say 'yes' to the boy she likes, she's so dumb.'
'There she goes again, dreaming by day and crying by night.'
'I don't know if I should pity her or knock some sense into her.'
Well, that's what I think people would think about me if they knew my life story. It's so easy to predict when they'd roll their eyes or facepalm themselves.
"What are you thinking about?" Peter knocks my head with his index.
"Just random stuff." I shrugged.
Peter slowly sat up, propping a leg up and taking another lazy drag of his cigerette.
"Why did you turn down Zeke?" He asked, looking curious.
I glanced at him and frowned.
I hadn't thought about that. I only kept in mind the fact that I turned him down, not they 'why' of the situation.
"Instinct I guess. It just didn't feel right back there." I looked at Peter. "Dude, I've been head over heels with him for such a long time. A long time. And my feelings are not invalid, I know that, but somehow hearing him talk about this today just felt like he disregarded my feelings, not that he knows I like him, but still. I felt it that way."
Peter looks at me for a while before shaking his head.
"Honestly, you did good."
"What do you mean?"
"I've never told you this, but," he looked at me dead in the eyes, "he's not good for you."
My brows furrowed.
"For some reason, I agree." I bump fists with Peter.
Peter chuckled.
"But Pete, I still like him so much," I groaned, hitting his shoulder with my head.
"Are you sure?" He asked seriously, looking up at the judging stars.
"No?"
"You can't just like somebody for so long and then unlike them, there must be a reason."
I grabbed the cigerette from his fingers and smashed it on the roofing.
"I feel like I liked the Zeke I made up in my head."
"Liked? Past tense?"
I shrugged.
He laughed loudly, running a hand through his hair.
"But what if he hits on me for real and I end up liking him again?"
Peter sighed.
"Saira, look, you've been in love with this guy forever. Madly and stupidly. I don't belive the bullshit you just spewed about not liking him anymore. Tomorrow he'll hit on you, and you'll come running to me about how green his fucking eyes are!"
He narrowed his eyes.
Peter was pissed.
"That is a very good observation, but what are you trying to say?"
"I'm saying, feelings don't go away as soon as they came. If it somehow did go away for you, you're the luckiest fucking person on the planet."
He stood up.
I pulled the fabric of his shirt.
"What if I can prove to you that feelings can go away as soon as they came crashing down?"
He smirked, lighting up another cigerette between his lips.
"It's on."
