Sometimes I think of the night sky and wonder if one day we'd all be as peaceful as that--just a couple of stars blinking in their place.
But if we were that peaceful we'd never need people.
"You're so quiet."
I looked up at Tyler from my note.
"Huh?" I looked at him.
He looked around the cafe we were sitting in and pulled his chair closer to mine.
"You're quiet today. It's creepy." He said with a lopsided grin.
I gave him a small smile.
Tyler could do that to anybody; make them smile during unpredictable circumstances. He's a darling for that.
I watched him pick up his coffee. He was gazing at me expectantly, waiting for a reply.
"We should all go out somewhere." I suggested randomly, not knowing what to tell him.
I had a millions of reasons for my quietness, and I decided to keep them to myself. Nobody should worry about me and my petty problems.
"We can go to the fair. Maybe you can invite Zeke."
That was his suggestion.
I looked at him with a glazed look in my eyes.
"No, it'll be fun with just us five, maybe Paige can make her move on Pete then."
That was my reply.
Tyler looked taken aback.
"You know?" He asked.
I rolled my eyes.
"Paige told me yesterday. A lot happened," I responded vaguely.
"Well, please tell me."
"Pete came home drunk yesterday. He seems to have had a slight temperature since he got wet in the rain."
"What? Seriously, what's going on with him?" Tyler looked frustrated. "I tried to get him to talk to me about his stuff, he asked me to fuck off."
I chuckled.
"That sounds like Pete alright."
"What else?" Tyler sounded curious.
"He drunkenly said 'it was all your fault.' Whatever that meant." I waved dismissively.
Deep down, what he said bothered me. Peter always likes keeping people in the dark about whatever he was going through, so it wasn't much of a surprise.
"That's so strange," Tyler murmured.
I nodded my agreement.
"He wouldn't say anything when I asked him about it."
I picked up my hot coffee and sipped on it, looking around absentmindedly.
"Where's Trixie?" I asked. "She was supposed to be here too."
Tyler shrugged.
"Honestly, her lack of participation in our gatherings doesn't surprise me anymore," he grumbled.
I raised a brow, silently asking to elaborate, and he did, with a sigh.
"She's always fucking busy half the time we hang out. Shady bitch."
"Well, we'll just text in the group chat whenever we hang out, whoever wants to hang out can join," I declared, setting down my coffee.
Tyler nodded.
