I gazed at Paige expectantly as I sat down on her bed.
Zeke dropped me off at Paige's house since her text sounded important and about Pete and I was not about to take any chances.
"Okay, where's Pete? Is everything okay?" I asked slowly, keeping my calm.
I watched her fidget around once again. That's what she has been doing ever since I landed in her house and it was lowkey driving me mad.
"Oh my god, just sit down," I muttered, standing up and guiding her to sit down on the bed.
"I'm sorry," she mumbled. "I just don't know how to tell you."
I pulled the chair from her desk and sat down in front of her.
"Now, what's going on?" I asked. "Is it something serious?"
I saw her edge back and shift around in her seat.
"It's a little complicated."
"I need to know something first, is Pete okay?" I asked.
"He's fine, he's the problem though," she said, covering her face with a pillow.
I've never seen Paige act the way she was right then. She wasn't someone to shy away from anything yet I felt like I was in front of an alien judging by her body language.
"What do you mean?" I frowned.
"I like Pete," she blurted.
My breath hitched.
"What?" I breathed out.
"I like Pete, more than a friend," she confessed.
I chuckled.
This was ridiculous.
Paige always liked to call out Pete for everything he does. She always had something to say about him--something not really good, so it was a bit hard for me accept the fact that she liked Pete more than a friend.
Wait.
She always worried about what he was doing. All those times when she chided Pete for being irresponsible and reckless.
Those were actually the signs?!
"Say something," she leaned forward.
"Wow, um, since when?" I spoke awkwardly.
"Around a month or two," she shrugged.
I gasped.
"And you didn't tell anyone?"
"Well, Tyler knows."
I sighed and sank back into the chair. This moment, was weird and very surprising for a variety of reasons and I just didn't know how to react. Peter was my best friend, and the two most important people in my life might get together so I should be supportive of them right?
