It's been a long time since I'd went out to watch a movie.
And when Vik called me up, asking me when to book the tickets, I'd immediately added him to the squad's group chat and everyone were ready to ditch school to watch Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
That's how we all ended up at the cinema on a weekday, totally hyped up. Aryan ended up tagging along too.
But Peter was nowhere to be found, and the screens were yet to open.
"Hey where's Pete?" I asked Paige.
"Dunno."
"Oookay," I side stepped her, joining Vik and Tyler who were animatedly discussing something. "Guys where's Pete?"
"On his way, he's stuck in traffic," Tyler replied.
I glanced at my brother who was talking animatedly with Trixie. I strained my ears to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"I know! Camila and Shawn were perfect together, I can't believe they broke up," Aryan shook his head.
"Aryan Alvar, are you gossiping?" I laughed.
"What, no!"
He denied.
"I heard what I heard," I held my hands out. "You were gossiping."
"Guys the screen's out," Vik announced.
All of us immediately huddled together, walking into the theater, giddy and excited. Once inside, Paige was next to me, but the space beside her was empty.
Peter was still not here, and there was time to start the movie.
"You good?" I nudged Paige.
She nodded, but she's fooling no one. She's been grumpy like this since yesterday, and it was showing.
My phone buzzed and lit up with a text
I don't see you at school.
It was Zeke.
Me: That's because I'm at the theater.
Zeke: Ahh, someone likes to bunk.
Me: Of course, but it's your fault.
Zeke: I've created a monster.
I giggled, rolling my eyes.
"Who're you texting?" Paige leaned in.
"No one," I pushed my phone into my bag.
My phone buzzed again, but it continued buzzing, so I knew it was a phone call. I pulled out my phone, frowning.
Peter was calling me.
"Where on earth are you?" I ask as soon as I pick his call.
"Arguing with a cop."
