I didn't know what to say or think when I saw Peter's retreating back.Tyler came up to stand beside me and the first thing he did was sigh.
"He don't want to?" He asked, curling his hands in the pockets of his hoodie.
"He doesn't want to take her," I groaned.
"I guess Paige is just going to have to confess, and Zeke has been staring at you for like, ever."
My body was automatically on alert, because we're talking about Ezekiel friggin' Knight.
"Did I do something weird? Do I look weird?"
Tyler shook his head.
"Honestly I'm the only normal person around here," he started walking back, grumbling to himself. "One likes an antisocial bastard the other one likes a golden retriever, and another fucking collects cologne bottles."
Yes, golden retriever was definitely Zeke, and cologne bottles was no doubt Trixie.
I sighed.
I then remembered that Ezekiel Knight was looking at me and when I turned to look at him he was standing with Sierra Stevens, discussing something.
Everything seemed pointless so I made my mission--to find Peter.
I tried calling his phone but he didn't pick up. Maybe he was more mad than I thought he was.
I called his phone five times until he picked up.
"What the fuck Saira?" He grunted over the phone.
I could imagine him being pissed. A cigarette in hand, his phone in the other.
"Where the fuck are you?" I questioned.
"At the fair?"
"Where at the fair you dumbass?"
"Try and get me."
He hung up.
He fucking hung up.
But the place where he was played a merry-go-round song where the kids sit around on horses and someone operates the ride.
It took me no longer than five minutes to find Peter friggin' Apollo. He was standing at the back side of the ride where some old broken machine parts were lying around.
He was also smoking as I figured.
"What are you doing here? You look depressed," I said as soon as I stood near him.
The fences around the fair was small and outside the fair was a lake at which we were looking at right now.
Peter ignored me.
"You're acting like a child, Pete, I'll go to the pre-met with you, Paige was a pleasant suggestion."
He snorted.
"Pleasant suggestion? What the fuck? You're so weird."
He smoked out a puff of air through his nose, looking far ahead. He always seemed to be doing that. Looking far ahead than the rest of us that sometimes he fails to live in the moment.
"Paige would be a cooler date, but if you wanna be stuck with boring ol' me, your loss," I chastised.
"Sounds to me like you don't wanna go," he shook his head, still not looking at me even once.
"I do wanna go!"
"Then why do you want me to take Paige?!"
All of a sudden I heard a familiar voice intervene--it was Paige.
"Because I like you!"
I looked back to see almost all of my friends standing together. Trixie gasped in surprise, and Zeke was standing next to Sierra Stevens awkwardly.
I silently walked and stood next to Tyler who was trying to hide his grin.
"We should give them some privacy," Trixie spoke up and we all cleared the scene, letting Paige and Peter have their time alone.
I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that my very antisocial friend, aka Paige, just yelled and confessed in front of a bunch of people about liking Peter.
That was something I didn't see coming.
"Hey," Zeke fell in step with me, shooting me a small, as the others walked in front of us.
"Hi," I grinned.
Zeke was the only constant in my life right now. He was constant, wanted to hit on me, likes me for the weirdo I am, and here I am, hesitant about confessing to him after months of my feelings.
My feelings for him were consistent, and almost, static.
Maybe I should just confess. But then what? We get into a relationship. But what if I'm not happy in the relationship, what if it's not what I thought it would be. I've built up a fantasy out of my feelings for Zeke and I would be so disappointed if what we might have in the future doesn't meet my 'fantasical' expectations.
"You wanna try out the Ferris wheel?" He spoke to me with a boyish grin.
And that right there, was one of the many reasons why I fell for him.
"Sure, yeah." I couldn't contain my smile.
"And get some dinner later, just us?"
It was just the way he looked at me--it made me feel funny inside. It was how you would feel when the boy you've been secretly pining after all of a sudden has his eyes on you.
Literally.
He was looking at me and I passed out on the inside. More than once.
"I'd love that," I giggled like a middle-schooler.
For a while we just stood there, looking at each other. Nothing else mattered. Nobody else but us.
He leaned closer to me with what seemed like to me, a shy grin and said.
"Would it be weird if I kissed you right now?"
My heart burst; thrice.
First at his awful good looking smile. Second at our close proximity. Third, at the mind blowing question of his.
"I guess it wouldn't be that bad."
That was my answer.
What happened next would forever be etched in my brain.
He came closer, leaned down holding my hands, pulled me a little closer, and leaned his head down, capturing my lips in a slow and gentle kiss.
It wasn't what I had imagined.
Not at all.
Because this, was way better.
Better than my 'fantasical' dreams.
We pulled away together.
"That was," I paused.
"Good?" He hinted with a chuckle.
"Way better than good," I laughed.
"Is it too soon?"
I tightened my hold on his hand.
"Yes. Yes but it's perfect."
