about a week laterloving avery james was a roller coaster of emotions from day one. I had allowed myself to not only trust someone, but to also fall in love. and this morning started out like every other slow, sunday morning.
silence lingered in the apartment as avery and I had our coffee, usually reading or watching the news. I sighed, and resting my book on my lap. "hey sweetie, you ready for some breakfast?" I asked as she nodded, but never looked up from her book.
I let out a low chuckle, "what'ya in the mood for?" I asked as I walked into the kitchen, with avery following not to far behind me. "pancakes? pretty please?" she asked, so sweetly as I nodded and pressed my lips to her skin.
"alright, pancakes it is" I said, as she happily grabbed her phone and started to play music over the speakers in the apartment. I quickly mixed together a batter while she prepped the fruit and bacon.
as I waited for the pancakes to cook, I leaned against the counter staring at her in complete awe. she had no care in the world, singing along to whatever song was playing as her crazy bed head flopped all over the place.
"what..?" she asked as she looked up, her and I making eye contact. I shook my head, "nothing, you're just so beautiful" I said as I walked to the other side of the counter, and pulling her into me so her back was to my chest.
"marshall.." she said in between laughs, as I peppered her skin with kisses. "yes, sweet girl?" I said, as my lips were still attached to her skin.
"you're crazy.." she said playfully, before leaning her head back allowing me more access to her showing skin. "crazy for you" I said, before burying my face into the crook of her neck. she let out a belly laugh as her fingers grazed through my hair.
"thank you for allowing me to love you" I said muffled, into her skin before her and I made eye contact. she shook her head, "you don't need to thank me" she said as I let out a deep sigh, ready to take my chance.
"avery, before you, there was no way in hell I was looking to be in a relationship which isn't really surprising to anyone and everyone I know has made that extremely clear to you. but when I met you.."
"I wasn't prepared to meet the person I wanted to spend the rest of my life with" I said, my voice cracking. "I love that i'll never find a tshirt in my drawer cause you steal them and tell me that they are collectively ours, and we share them"
"I love this slow sunday morning thing you started, allowing us to really take a break and unplug from all the constant shit we deal with so we could actually enjoy a cup of coffee, read or make breakfast with each other"
"but most importantly, I prayed for you. while I was going through the darkest and shittiest, and most frankly loneliest times ever, I prayed that someone was listening and would send me someone who could help me.."
"help me.. mend all the bitterness inside me. you are the person i'd run to in a crowded room, you have forever changed me for the better and I want to spend the rest of my life showing you how grateful I am"
"marshall.." avery said, with tears brimming her eyes. I cleared my throat, before getting down on one knee and pulling the ring box from my pajama pants pocket, "avery james, will you make me the happiest man on earth and marry me?"
