marshall pov
november twenty sixth, twenty twenty - thanksgiving dayi let out a sigh, feeling the emptiness of the bed, knowing avery james was awake and already causing trouble. i opened my eyes slightly, to see reruns of seinfeld still playing from last night and her late night snack wrappers littering her night stand.
I sat up, soaking in the silence before hearing the chaos erupt from the kitchen. "good lord, what are these girls doing..?" i said to myself, as i got out of bed. i leaned against the doorway of the bedroom, arms crossed as i watched the insanity in my kitchen.
"are you girls breaking the house, or what?" i asked, in my most dad-like tone. the girls jumped and gasped unaware that i was even awake, "jesus dad, you just gave me a heart attack" alaina said as she leaned on the kitchen counter.
avery let out a chuckle, "we're not breakin' anything, we're preppin' for dinner tonight" she said as samantha couldn't roll her eyes any harder. "ohmygod that's not what's happening right now. avery decided it was an opportune time to make pancakes, while we prep"
i let out a low chuckle, "okay.. and where's hailie?" i asked, looking around. "right here.." she said, her voice raspy, as she raised her hand from where she was on the couch, wrapped up in a blanket.
"i should have know, love is blind is on.." i said, as i poured myself a cup of coffee and took a sip of the warmth. i took a minute, staring outside at the gray overcast and last night's snow fall that covered the ground.
"hey, marshall.." avery said so innocently, as my heart skipped a beat at the sound of her saying my name. I let out a low mhm, turning around to see her walk toward me. i watched as she had nothing but my tshirt on, and her curls all over the place.
"yes, sweet girl..?" i said, running the pad of my thumb across her bare cheek, seeing her sweet freckles dusted along the bridge of her nose and cheeks. avery was a sight, dolled up or not, that would make any man go weak at the knees - and she was all mine.
"will you come with me for a minute..?" she asked, gesturing toward the bedroom. i nodded as she took my hand in hers, as i followed behind her. "baby before you say anything, i just want to say happy one year" i said, digging through my nightstand.
"and thank you for trusting me to love you, they way you actually deserve to be loved.." i said as i handed her an envelope with an anniversary card in it. she chewed at her lip, trying to contain her laugh, "it's been a year, already?"
i nodded, "one whole crazy jam packed year, and now i can't get rid of you" i said as she let out a laugh. "why must you ruin a beautiful moment, and be an asshole?" she asked as she playfully pushed me away
"avery james, you know good and well that i love you with everything i have. and at this point i don't think i could live, without you in my life" i said as tears brimmed her eyes. "oh, marsh.." she said as she cupped my face.
"i'm sorry, i didn't mean for it to get sappy that quick. what did you originally bring me in the bedroom for, are we having thanksgiving sex?" i asked as started to remove my shirt. she shook her head and laughed, trying to pull my shirt back down.
"no" she said before her playful tone, turned serious. "out of respect of you and our relationship, i just want you in the know of what's goin' on. so, um.. it's official. ryan finally signed the divorce papers"
