a few days later"so, how's it been in michigan lately..?" samantha asked on the other end of the facetime call. i shrugged, "just the same old, same old. it's starting to get cold here.." i said before resting my head in my hands.
"really? it's like ninety five here today.." samantha said as i gasped. "i'd kill to be in that kinda heat, but instead i'm bundled like a little burrito baby" i said before taking a sip of my slightly warm coffee.
"you're the only weirdo i know that loves the texas heat.." samantha said as i playfully poked my lip out. "i'm nervous for my first full winter here, i'm pretty sure i don't have a ton of clothes that are heavy enough"
"you know marshall will willingly hand over his credit card to fix that" she said as i nodded. "i mean, you're not wrong. oh also, marshall and i have been lighting discussing the topic of a wedding.."
samantha gasped, quickly breaking focus from work. "what, ohmygod how can you tell me this and be so nonchalant?" she asked as i let out a low chuckle. "well, i mean you know how i feel about weddings"
"but, marshall and i have only talked about it a handful of times, so nothing serious has been decided but i just wanted to let you know" i said as samantha couldn't wipe the smile off her face.
"we talked about a very rough estimate for a guest list, and what time of year we preferred it to be. but we're really undecided if we want to have an actual wedding, or if we just want to go to the court house"
samantha let out a dramatic whine, "please don't go to the court house" she said. "okay well, hypothetically how would you feel about a spring wedding?"
"only assuming the wedding would be in texas, you know the weather is bipolar as fuck so that's taking a chance for having outdoor ceremonies and pictures. but, is that what you want? spring of two thousand twenty two?"
i shook my head, "more like spring of two thousand twenty one.." i said before samantha's eyes widened. "avery james, that's six months away and how am i supposed to start planning if you and marshall aren't even set on having a wedding?"
i shrugged, "is it impossible to do..?" i asked. samantha shook her head, "nothings impossible when you have enough money and the right people behind you honey. and c'mon your mom and i pulled together an engagement party in a matter of hours"
"but i need to know if this is seriously what you're wanting. so i'll give you some time to think about it but you have to let me know your decision.." she said before marshall walked into the living room.
"decision about what..?" marshall asked, eavesdropping on my conversation before he plopped himself on top of me, now cheek to cheek, squishing me. samantha let out a low chuckle, "how you doin' marsh..?"
"oh you know, i can't complain" he said as i whined out his name, trying to push him off of me before he playfully peppered my skin with kisses. "well, avery was just tellin' me that you guys are undecided about having a wedding"
"it's honestly criminal, cause she knows how much this means to me. and i never thought she'd get married again after the first wedding didn't go through" she said nonchalantly, as i could feel a pit in my stomach.
i started to feel hot, and couldn't decide if i wanted to throw up or pass out. marshall knew a few details about my relationship with ryan but not everything, i tried to keep as much as i could unknown to anyone but ryan and myself.
i cleared my throat, "hey sam, i- i forgot that i promised noah i'd call him before his shift tonight so, i'm gonna need to hop off" i said as she didn't think twice about it. "okay, i'll talk to you later honey" she said before the call ended.
"why'd you get all weird and end the call with samantha..?" marshall asked as he furrowed his eyebrows, and sitting upright on the couch. "cause i don't think its appropriate that ryan gets brought up.." i said as i got up, walking into the kitchen.
"baby if you're doing it for my behalf i-" i stopped him. "marshall, i do it cause i find it extremely disrespectful to our relationship. but i'm really trying my best to forget him and the whole damn relationship ever happened"
"i have wasted years under the manipulation of him and his family. so, i left to find out who i was outside of all the money of the families. i- i wasn't ready to be someone's wife, because i wanted to take my career as far as it could go"
"and, he wasn't thrilled that i had a respected say-so in a male dominated environment" i said as tears brimmed my eyes. "avery james, listen to me honey. i could care less about this stupid fuck, you are my priority"
"you are everything to me, sweet girl" marshall said as he tucked some loose curls behind my ear. i let out a sigh of relief, "thank you for loving me the way that you do, i swear sometimes i think this is all a fever dream"
