"How do I look?"

I look up from my laptop and my best friend Evon dressed up. She literally came over here after going shopping and ran into my bathroom to 'get ready'. She was dressed casually but bougie at the same time. She was Versace buttoned up blouse with some jean shorts. She did her makeup and hair too.

"You look good! I like the shirt but where are you going?"

She giggled," WE are going out tonight!"

I looked at her like she was crazy," Who's 'we'?"

"Girl, bye. You know what she meant," I hear my other best friend Tasha say walking into my room, already dressed up.

"No, I don't. When did we talk about going out?"

"We didn't but girl, all you do is work and homework," Tasha complained.

Work and homework. Literally my life. I'm a freelance cosmetician and a part time student at University of Southern California. I do my classes online due to the facts of my demanding clientele, watching my baby sister, and I just don't want to have to stay on campus or drive back and forth so online is more convenient.

I went to cosmetology school during my last few years in high school. It was just a year program for anyone 17 or older could apply to and I've always been a makeup junkie so why not do it for a living? Plus my mama said it's either school or I needed to find a 'real job' so school it is. Eventually, I want to open my own salon and have my own makeup line so I'm going to USC learn more about the business. I already have my graduate certificate for leadership but now I'm working on my masters for Business Administration.

I have a few more months until the end of semester and it'll be summertime. Finals is around the corner and I'm doing so well in school, straight A's to be exact but people sometimes, get on my case because I'm always 'busy'.

"Well excuse me for wanting to focus on doing better for myself," I laughed.

"And we proud of you boo but we deserve some Kay Kay time now Tasha, do you like my outfit?," Evon said.

"Ooh I love the shirt! Over here, looking expensive with money you don't have," Tasha said making me snort.

"I do have money, thank you!," Evon argued.

"No, yo daddy have money," Tasha replied.

Evon's parents aren't rich rich but they're pretty well off being that her dad is a plastic surgeon and her mom is a real estate agent. Evon is also an only child so naturally her parents spoil the shit out of her.

"Anyways, where y'all plan on going? No clubs because I can't stay out too late," I said, still looking at my laptop.

"Well too fuckin bad because either way, you stayin out late tonight. We're going to Drake's show! K. Dot is opening for him," Tasha said, laying next to on my bed.

"I'm sorry, who?," I asked, confused.

"K. Dot!," she repeated.

It sounds familiar but I don't think I know a K. Dot. I just went back to typing on my computer. The confusion must've shown on my face because both Evon and Tasha gasped.

"Girl, you telling me you don't remember who Kendrick is?," Tasha asked, shocked.

"Seriously! He went to high school with us," Evon said.

"I've also been out of school for what? Almost 6 years, I don't remember everyone and everything," I chuckled.

"Kendrick though? You don't remember Compton's own??? Bitch, you ain't loyal," Tasha said.
