"Are you sure about this? You do not have to, it is okay, I will be okay." Katya said once they'd arrived outside the large office building.
"Katya, breathe. I'm sure, okay? I want to do this." Trixie replied, taking the Russian's hand and interlocking their fingers.
"So we are really doing this then?"
"Yes, we're really doing this, and then you'll be free to do whatever you want. I've talked to Bob, she'll help us get all the legal work settled and she'll help with securing you a green card. We're gonna work this out, I promise."
"What did I ever do to deserve you?" Katya asked, tears nearly escaping her eyes.
"Hey, no tears. We've gotta be ice cold and put that motherfucker in his place. Now, are you ready?"
"Yes, I'm ready."
They made their way into the building and up to the floor where Trixie worked. With confident steps they walked straight into Mr. Miller's office without knocking, surprising the man.
"What's all this about?" Mr. Miller said, standing up and walking in front of his desk. "Oh Katya, you didn't go and whine to your little girlfriend did you? Yeah, I know about you two. Trixie, you can do much better honestly. Go find yourself a man who can fuck you good and I promise you'll forget all about this little affair. But I mean, if you two want to make out then go right ahead, I'll gladly watch." He said with a smirk.
"Oh shut up, you fucking pig." Trixie said, her eyes burning with anger.
"Watch it, Mattel. Unless you want to loose your entire future."
"Go right ahead, you can talk shit about me to whomever you'd like; I don't care. I'm not gonna sit by and watch the woman I love get treated like shit by a man who shouldn't even be allowed to look in her direction." She replied boldly.
"Oh look who grew some balls! Well, go right ahead and try to save her from me then. Pay up, Mattel, and she'll be free to go. Use daddy's money to buy yourself a little whore."
"Don't you dare fucking talk to her like that!" Trixie yelled.
"I'll talk to my fiance however I want. What are you gonna do about it, Trixie? Cry? Get down on your knees and beg? I bet you'd look good on your knees in front of me."
"Oh, fuck you!" Katya suddenly said, slamming her fist into the man's right eye with all the power she had.
Mr. Miller fell backwards from the impact and Katya grabbed the chance to kick him directly in the groin with her high heeled shoe. The man yelled out in pain, and Trixie could only imagine how silent the office had to be due to the commotion.
"You fucking bitch!"
"Oh Robert dear, is that any way to speak to your fiance?" Katya said with a grin before taking of her ring and slamming it down on the desk. "Or should I say ex-fiance?"
"Here's a check with the full amount." Trixie said, putting it next to the ring. "It may be daddy's money but at least I can access my inheritance. You on the other hand will have to find another poor girl to force into marriage, or you can just sit back and watch your cousin get rich instead."
"You don't need to pay him a dime." A voice said from the doorway.
Katya turned around and saw a familiar face.
A face she didn't expect to ever see again.
"Mr. Smith?" Trixie said.
"Wait, that is Mr. Smith?" Katya asked.
"Yes, why?"
"That is the man from the bar." The Russian replied.
"Nice to see you again, Katya." Mr. Smith said with a warm smile.
"You two know each other?" Mr. Miller asked.
"Yes, I had the pleasure of running into this lovely young woman the other night. I also had the displeasure of hearing what you've been up to. My apologies for not informing you of my identity Katya, I realized who you were once you mentioned Robert's name, but I was worried you wouldn't continue talking to me if I told you." He said.
"It is okay, it was a nice conversation." Katya replied, causing Mr. Smith to smile once more.
"Robert, I am deeply disappointed in you."
"It's all lies, whatever she told you it's all lies." The other man replied.
"Interesting... I seem to have heard you confirm her story only minutes ago, and I also heard quite a few sexist comments. I guess Courtney did in fact tell the truth, huh? Even though you swore it was taken out of thin air." Mr. Smith replied.
"Thomas, you know women overreact."
"No, that's not something I know. In case you forget, our job is to defend people's rights Robert, I can't have you representing the two of us if you also stomp on those rights daily. Now, you're going to announce that you're leaving the firm, and you will sell all your stocks at a low price to me. You're also going to burn the contract you had with Katya and forget all about her owing you money. Is that quite understood?"
It was in that moment Trixie truly saw who had the power at the firm. Sure, Mr. Miller was a partner, but he was not the main owner, and despite her first impression, Thomas Smith did not accept the other man's actions. She wondered then how everything would have been if she had come forward alongside Courtney when she had made her accusations, and she felt a tinge of guilt for not doing so.
"Alright.... it's understood." Robert finally said, realizing that he couldn't fight against Mr. Smith.
The two women left the office with Thomas, walking confidently past a crowd of shocked employees, leaving a defeated Mr. Miller behind in his soon-to-be emptied office. They kept going until they were outside the building, all of them in need of some fresh air.
"Thank you, so much." Katya said.
"It's the least I could do. I'm very sorry for what he's done to you." Mr. Smith replied. "And, Mattel, if you want a job once you finish school, you've got one waiting for you here."
"Thank you, Mr. Smith. But I think I'll want to go somewhere else, somewhere where memories of sexual harassment won't be etched into my brain."
"Fair enough. I'm very sorry that I didn't pay more attention and didn't realize the seriousness of the claims being made. But you are welcome to finish up your internship with us, alongside me this time, and once you leave I would be more than happy to write up a letter of recommendation for you. You are highly skilled, Mattel. You'll make a great lawyer some day." The man said.
"Thank you, I appreciate it." Trixie replied.
"It's the least I could do. I hope you two will be happy together, you deserve it."
"I am certain we will be." Katya replied, taking Trixie's hand in hers.
