What I had just heard had taken me completely by surprise. Is he really asking me out on a date? I didn't get a chance to respond quickly because my voice suddenly stopped working; all I could do was stare at him wide-eyed as my mouth opened and closed, trying to think of the right response.
“Oh, did I say that out loud?” he surprisingly asked, putting his hand over his mouth and taking a step backward.
“I-I believe you just did, Baekhyun,” I said absentmindedly, my gaze fixed on him.
He's also taken aback by what he's just asked me, but who am I to refuse? I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been anticipating this moment… again. Because I believe that if he hadn't asked me first, I would have been the one to say it without hesitation.
“I did? Oh god, I'm so sorry, Taeng— Taeyeon,” he exclaimed, surprised that he had called me by my nickname, which he had always used when we were together. And that's something I'd like to hear from him again.
We both stood there for a minute, avoiding each other's gaze, until one of us decided to break the silence. He cleared his throat, putting his hand inside his pocket as he looked at me and inhaled sharply, as if he wanted to say or ask something but wasn't sure if he should.
“Just say it, Baekhyun,” I advised.
“So, you and Ravi… Are you two dating?” he asked, averting his gaze.
“What? Me and Ravi? No, we're not,” I couldn't help but chuckle.
“No?” he asked again. “As in, no?”
I shook my head, biting my lip, trying not to smile. “We're just friends.”
“But…” he trailed off, his mouth opening and closing as if trying to think of something to say. He probably didn't expect that? Or he wants to say something but is unable to.
Another minute of silence passed as I watched him intently while he stared into the distance, most likely talking to himself. Part of me wants to say something, or at the very least tell him that Ravi is just trying to make him jealous, but I'm afraid I'll ruin the conversation. However, he is the one who speaks again.
His gaze was drawn to mine, and a look of realization appeared on his face. “But you and Ravi are always together… So, that doesn't mean anything, I mean, you two are going out as friends only? Nothing else… But, he likes you, right? But I also saw him with another girl on his Instagram story, so… Did he… Is he just trying to make me jealous or something?”
He blurted continuously before looking directly at me, seeking an answer to his last question. But, he cut me off before I could respond.
“Well, dang! That works, Taeng,” he admittedly said without hesitation.
As my eyes widened, I realized I was the one who was more surprised by what he said. He just admitted that he's jealous of Ravi and even addressed me by my nickname again. Did that imply he still has feelings for me?
“Oh! I said it out loud again, didn't I?” he remarked hesitantly, scratching the back of his neck before straightening up and smiling at me. “So, we're already dressed up and waiting outside…”
“Well, what do you have in mind, Baekku?” I bravely asked, purposefully calling him as I do when we're together, which caught him off guard and caused the corner of his lips to lift.
