Felix offered for us to stay for dinner; to which we all graciously accepted. I offered to help him, but he politely declined. He sure did love taking care of his guests. He seemed to take pride in it, really.
Funnily enough, he seemed to be making one of my favorite foods. He really had been paying attention when we were talking about the foods we liked to eat. When I realized this, it brought a smile to my face. He barely knew me at all, yet so far he had gone through all this trouble for me. It made me feel really special. I can't really remember the last time someone new had gone out of their way to do such nice things for me as their house guest.Since he didn't need any help, I just watched instead. It was like watching a pro chef on TV. He was quick, precise, and careful with each step. It was almost mesmerizing. He didn't seem to mind my company and would occasionally strike conversation with me. He was super fun to talk to, and a wonderful listener. When we weren't talking, I found myself admiring the lovely kitchen. It was just as nice as the living room.
Upon occasion, I would hear the conversation Topsy and Sheba were having in the living room, but it was mostly just excited chatter from Topsy, and Sheba listening and commenting every once in a while.
I turned my attention back to Felix, and hummed in thought. There was a question I had for him that I was just dying to know the answer to. "Hey Felix," I began, and watched as he paused what he was doing to look up at me. He was giving me his undivided attention. "Hm?", he tilted his head curiously, awaiting what I had to say.
"Where did you get the inspiration to write your adventure series?" I leaned forward against the island counter, propping my elbow up onto it, and resting my chin in my palm.
"Well, I guess you could say I took some inspiration from my own life." He replied mysteriously, giving me a playful smile.
Before I could ask what he meant by that specifically, I was startled out of my curiosity by my notifications ringer going off on my phone. I pulled it out of my pocket, and read the message. It was from....no...I remember blocking him last year, and even later changed my number. How did he find out my new number??
I frowned, and set my phone down on the island counter. Felix seemed to sense my change of mood; his brow now furrowed with confusion and worry.
"Are you alright, (Y/n)?..."I gave a simple nod, and flashed him a tight smile.
"Yep. All good." I didn't really expect him to believe me. I just didn't want to involve my hero in my life drama. He was such a sweet guy, who already had plenty of things in his life to focus on. I'd feel awful if I suddenly became a burden to him.Felix's POV:
I knew it wasn't any of my business, and I didn't want to be nosy, but I could tell something was clearly bothering her. "Are you sure?...I can tell something is troubling you."
Her phone chimed again, and she backed away from it, as though whatever it was posed a threat to her. Her face radiated with fear. Something about all of this didn't sit right with me. I glanced at her phone; which she had left with the screen faced upward by mistake. I noticed a short message banner on her lock screen. It read: 'You better fucking answer me'.
I frowned, and moved closer to her. "(Y/n), who is speaking to you in that manner?"
She turned her head away, "It's nothing."
I could tell she didn't want to bother me with her problems, but if someone was harassing her, I wanted to help her. She clearly was having trouble with this on her own. "(Y/n)....is someone harassing you?", I placed a hand on her shoulder.Y/N's POV:
Felix wasn't stupid. There was no point in lying that there wasn't something going on. "It's....my brother."
I sat down on one of the cushioned, chair-like bar stools along the side of the kitchen island, and sighed."Your brother? What does he want from you?"
I watched him copy my actions, sitting on the bar stool next to me, and swiveling it to face me."Money. He keeps trying to get money from my mother and I, and we keep refusing. And we all know what he uses the money on. At first we started giving him money because his car broke down, but instead he used it to go get drunk at the bar, and to buy drugs. When we found out, we stopped helping him, but he kept asking for money; becoming more and more aggressive with each time we refused. My mother wanted to send him to rehab, but she's afraid of him."
Felix placed a hand over mine, a look of sympathy on his face. "I can take care of it, don't you worry. Thank you for being honest with me. May I see?"
I nodded, unlocked my phone, and showed him the new messages. He read them in silence, then set the phone down. "Just relax. I'll take care of this. Why don't you go sit with the girls for a bit? I'll finish up dinner, and after we eat, I'll contact the local rehab center and see what they think we should do."
I hopped off my stool, and nodded gratefully. He did the same; sliding off of his stool. I gave him a big hug in thanks, all while grinning happily. He seemed caught off guard at first; not expecting that, but brushed off the surprise and returned the embrace with a soft smile.
"Thank you, Felix."
"You're welcome", he replied; releasing me from his hold. "Now run along. I'm sure the girls would love to chat with you." He gently nudged me toward the direction of the living room with a toothy grin.
I giggled and left the kitchen to him to go strike up conversation with Topsy and Sheba.
