😇😇😇😇😇From barely being around her to her finding him almost everywhere she went.
More accurately she was now attuned to his presence.
Her parents had shut down the invitation before it was fully given. Even the invite sent to the house was sent back by Papa.
Now she was returning from the fish market by the dorks when she saw him.
He'd seen her as well. Her hair that was usually in a tight bun was in lose braids on each side of her shoulder. A wide hat on her head shielded her from the sun's angry heat.
He came to see how his sisters were settling in, the workers unfortunate enough to comment on their new bosses being women had just been rounded up. He was going to tell his sisters to prepare to receive new workers.
She walked right to where they stood as that was the exit she was to use. On getting close she bows in greeting before moving on.
Luigi kept a blank face while his sisters continued their discussion on their first assignment.
She was lucky he found her intriguing. Her family's refusal to attend that dinner had been an insult but his mamma had diffused the situation.
His father had tried for indifference, but he couldn't hide his smirk all through the dinner.
His ego demanded retribution, but he tamed it down. He'd extend the invite himself to Mrs Davids, if they declined then he'd swoop in and do what he wanted to do from the onset.
'Are you okay Fratello?', Laura's voice brought him back.
(Brother)
'Yes, your workers will be ready in three days time. Go look at your offices, meet me back at the house', he ordered before heading to his carriage.
He took a deep breathe and tried to quench his anger. As the carriage rolled through the road leading to the estate it suddenly stopped. He didn't bother looking out to know why.
A knock at the window had him opening a little to know what the issue was, instead he caught sight of Mrs Davids.
He opened the window properly to hear her.
'Pardon my intrusion Don, I believe I owe you an apology for my family's behavior', he didn't move but kept looking at her.
'We've insulted the famiglia by not honoring the invitation. For that I apologize, but I won't apologize for trying to protect my daughter. Her welfare would always be my priority. But for now, please accept my apologies', she gave a bow.
Without saying a word he signalled his driver to carry on.
He didn't say anything, but Scarlett was sure this wasn't over.

Mrs Russo was as usual in attendance for the Sunday service. As the service rounded up, Scarlett walked to where she was seated.
'Good morning Mrs Russo', she greeted.
'Oh Scarlett, you can call me Francesca. Mrs Russo gets tiresome after years of hearing it. I want to think we are passed that stage',
'Alright Francesca, thank you. I want to talk to you about something',
'If it's about the dinner you can rest easy. I don't believe Luigi will make a move because of it',
Scarlett looked doubtful, but her words eased her a bit. She didn't want her children moving with targets on their back anytime soon.
'Yes it's about the dinner, I already apologized to the Don but I believe he just gave me an audience to fulfill all righteousness', Francesca gave a smile.
He was respectful, that much was a good thing.
'Well, I don't pretend to know what goes on in the head of Luigi but this much I can assure you. If I hear of anything coming your family's way I'll put a stop to it. And I hear plenty',
'Thank you, I actually feel better. Again my sincere apologies, my child's safety will always be a priority',
'A mother's duty. I can totally get that. Well I've promised to make brunch for the kids, better go keep my word. Have a good day Scarlett', they said their good byes and went in opposite directions.
Mrs Russo towards her carriage, Mrs Davids towards the altar to the door leading to the pastor's office.
'Hello', she greeted her husband who was standing by his office window looking lost in thought.
'Darling', he turned and gave her a kiss to the forehead.
'So I spoke to Francesca, Mrs Russo. She says we should be fine',
'As I said earlier. We've always been protected of God. He won't relent at this point, He's not known for going back on His words',
'Thank you',
'Always welcome, want to join me for brunch at the bakery?',
'Let's', they both left the church premises but not without telling Craig and Sarah to take their siblings home.
Luigi sat in his office staring into space. Nothing on his mind, just staring. A knock had him sighing.
Only his mother came to him when he wanted to be alone.
'Come in Mamma', the door opened and revealed his mother in her night coat.
'You should be in bed Mamma', he took in her unbound hair and dainty stature. Even at her age she was still a looker.
'Yes orgoglio mio, but I wanted to talk to you',
(My pride)
'Mamma, I already said I wasn't going to give any punishments to the Davids. Some things are after all sacred', he said with a straight face. But Francesca raised him.
'Don't pay me lip service Orgoglio mio, you know I don't like it when you tell me things you think I want to hear', she gave him a hard look. A look that used to scare him till he got to a certain age.
'Mamma, I won't do anything to them. But at a price',
'And what could you possibly want?',
'A lot of things, but I'll make it up as the days go',
'Fair enough. Thank you orgoglio mio, I know you don't have to listen to your mamma but thank you for hearing me out',
'Always Mamma', he kissed her cheeks and walked her to her bedroom.
He really didn't want to do anything to the Davids, but if they kept asking for forgiveness and requesting that he doesn't take any actions he just might do something.
