The day had barely begun when it began raining, heavily.
Trees swayed like they were to be uprooted by the winds, the weather going haywire with the occasional lightening bolt.
Luigi sat in his study watching the weather. He had yet to do or say anything regarding his union to Sarah Davids. But the time was here and it was now imperative that he go and retrieve his bride.
The weather should have deterred him but he stood and set out to go to the church.
Sarah watched from the window as a carriage drove right up to the front pouch of the church.
The rider in a raincoat steadied the horses while the door of the carriage opened revealing her prayer point.
Luigi disregarding the rain stepped out of the carriage walked towards the church doors that were ever open.
'Mama-',
'Hush child', Scarlett who also saw the same thing held her hand. The younger children were at school. So they were out of reach at the moment.
Both of them made their way down the stairs, where they heard Bishop talking to the Don.
'Don, with all due respect I will not wed you and my daughter unless she agrees to this union unforced. I am fully aware that the famiglia functions on it's own rules but so do me and my household.
My daughter will not leave here with my blessings to a union that is forced on her',
Luigi smirked, this was going to make her stay even more interesting.
'Let's assume I care about your blessings, she's coming with me but can't be wedded to me without your blessings. Did I get that right? Interesting, and since she has saved us both the trip of going to get her I'd take my leave immediately. Come darling, your new home awaits you',
He beckoned Sarah who stood rooted at the spot.
Now?!
'Yes now my precious, let's go', before she could make sense of what was happening she was pulled by Luigi through the church and out the church doors.
A quick look showed her why her parents couldn't move, they had guns pointed at them.
She stumbled into the carriage in a daze not really believing that this was happening.
Not believing that this was about to be her life.
Eighteen years of existence couldn't prepare her for this.
Luigi took in his bride with a smirk, she looked to be in shock. Denial even, but this was going to be her new reality.
She was truly trapped cause even if he let her go, nobody in the community would want to have her for fear of him coming back for her.
Not that he had plans to let her go.
As the carriage rolled into the estate so did trepidation settle in for Sarah.
This was truly happening to her.
This was about to become her new norm.
This was about to become her life.
This was how her story changed from a free born to a slave.
Luigi left the carriage first and waited patiently for his bride to finally surface. She did after about a minute of him.
He extended his arm to her and she looked at it like a snake was being offered to her.
'Whatever is going through your mind just know and settle it in there that you are mine. Irrevocably so, which also implies that you are under my protection. Now grab my arm cause the only person you need fear in this household is me', the words did what they were meant to do.
She grabbed his arm as fear settled on her.
The only person you need fear in this household is me.
The words echoed in her ears till she was being steered into a bed room. She immediately stopped, not wanting or planning on sharing a room with him.
'Relax, I'm quite a traditional man myself. We won't be sharing a chamber till we are properly wedded. Even at that we still might not share a chamber. But you are to share the entire floor with me', he pushed open a door that revealed a huge and beautifully decorated room.
'This is yours, mine is down the hall and on your right. My study is also on this floor. So should you need me I'll be more than happy to oblige you. Settle in, your wardrobe should be through there',
He left immediately and she slowly sank to the floor of the room. The tears she couldn't she'd before came now unbidden.
She was now all alone with no family or friends.
What did she do to deserve this?
She silently sobbed until she had no more tears to spare. But she remained on that spot till her door opened to reveal Mrs Russo.
'Oh you poor child! Are you hurt?', she went to help her up and did a quick inspection. She was physically okay.
But mentally she wasn't.
'Calmette my child, I'll help you as long as you require it. Till you fit in and become the woman you are meant to be',
(Calm down/be calm)
'I don't want to fit in, I want to go home', she whispered. She wasn't fooled into thinking she had a friend or savior in Mrs Russo. Very far from it.
'This is your home now child, let that sink in and you'll be on the first step to taking a semblance of control back over your life. Go wash yourself, change and come down with the maid. We'll have lunch in about an hour',
Nodding she went to wash her face at the tub and returned to find a dress laid out for her.
Quietly she changed into the dress and found that it fit her perfectly.
She opened what seemed to be the wardrobe and found so many more dresses in different materials and styles.
She pulled open drawers and saw jewelry. More than she had ever seen in her life.
But was this what she wanted? A life as a bejeweled slave? A bird in a gilded cage?
This wasn't life, this wasn't her life. Oh God! Get me out of here!
