Chapter twenty five

A few weeks after her birthday she'd settled into a routine that was grating her nerves.

Wake up, say a short prayer, train, breakfast with the Don, back to her room or library, lunch if she was feeling hungry, nothing to do with her day, then dinner with the Don.

She'd even drafted a pattern to telling him about her day. And she was very sure he just ignored her sarcasm.

Her door opened revealing Luigi.

'Come', he turned and left. She quickly followed him to the front door? What was going on??

She got her answer when the door was opened and they stepped out. A man was struggling to be free from the guards. A man named Noah who was supposed to be somewhere across the continent apprenticing to be a blacksmith.

Instinctively she rushed to go help him but Luigi pulled her flush against his body.

'I want to believe you didn't invite your lost love to my house mio amore, it certainly won't end well for either of you. Whatever the case is!', he said directly into her ear.

Sarah stilled for a moment before she began thrashing out of fear.

'I wouldn't dare invite him! You know this! If I was to invite anybody to your house it'd be my family ', fear was gradually turning to calculated rage. He couldn't continue treating her like this.

'What I know is that this vermin is on my grounds, and not by sheer magic I assure you',

'Then ask your guards how he got this far? How he knew I was here and how to get here! Leave me the heck of out it!', she pulled a move and instantly freed herself. But she landed on the floor with Luigi's gun pointed at Noah.

His eyes were still on her when he pulled the trigger.

'No, no!!! Noah!', she turned just in time to see his body drop.

She screamed.

'Why would you do that?!!! What did he do to you?!', she prayed this was another horrible dream and she'd wake up right now to pray it away.

But she didn't wake up.

She struggled to her feet and made to run to Noah but Luigi wretched her back and pushed her into the arms of the nearest guard.

'Lock her in my chambers ', he ordered. Eyes locked on hers, cold empty eyes. She thought his lips curled in amusement and launched her attack on him but she didn't get close enough.

Her screams echoed through the building. Instead of going up they were going down.

She soon realized that his chambers was a special cell kept for some designated offenders. Example her.

She was unceremoniously pushed into the cell and the door closed on her.

In no time she was screaming again, screaming Noah's name. Screaming why, screaming that she woke up from this nightmare.

Screaming why he had to die? Why she had to witness it

She cried till she didn't have any more tears to give. She cried herself to exhaustion and curled herself into a foetal position before falling asleep.

But this time she prayed she didn't wake up to face this horrid reality.

******

'Luigi why is Sarah there?', his mama badged into his office after news must have reached her of today's happenings.

He didn't want to think about it.

'Mother, how I deal with my Donna is my business and my business alone. Perhaps you need to be reminded of who the Don here is',

'I am very well aware of who is in charge here and right at this moment you are ruining whatever chances you'd have at a sane marriage! What is wrong with you? Are you not supposed to punish an offender? What did she say or do to warrant her being there?!',

He didn't say a word to her.

After a few minutes of yelling from his mama as he tuned her out, she slammed his door on her way out. Something she knew he hated.

Around midnight he made his way to the cell. The place was horribly cold and the air was stale.

Just how he liked his prisoner's accomodations.

He opened the door to the cell and saw Sarah curled up and shivering, a few words murmured in between each breathe.

As expected she was burning up.

He carried her straight to his room where the doctor was called and medicine administered.

Her crime of attacking him, or trying to attack him in public would be addressed later, he needed her well for the punishment to have any meaning.

When he came in the next morning from his training he found her sitting up in bed, knees to her chest and eyes filled with what he could only interpret as hatred.

Good. Now she was learning.

She didn't say a word to acknowledge his presence. He gave his usual smirk.

He went to a corner of his room to undress, bathe and dress for the day.

When he emerged his bed was empty. His door opened, she'd left.

He walked straight to her room but she wasn't there, he checked the other rooms on his floor for the sake of it and she wasn't there.

He looked out the window on instinct and found her seating just as she was on his bed.

With just her night gown.

No over coat, and the weather was freezing. Winter was near.

He went to her naturally and pulled her off her position. She didn't make a sound. This he didn't know if he liked or not.

He flung her on his bed and locked his door behind her.

The only people to gain access were the maid assigned to his floor and the doctor to check on her.

The doctor assured him that she was fine for the most part and that she refused her drugs now that she was awake.

He went back and forced them down her throat.

That was the only time she made any move to fight him.

The rest of the week she didn't say a word to him. Didn't eat more than the bread on the dinner table.

That feeling in his gut all along had finally materialized, he'd made a mistake with her.

Finally he let her out of his sight, back to her room which she only left for trainings.

Even there she wasn't the jolly person she used to be.

Well he got his wish, and he didn't know how to feel about it.
