Her being awake didn't last long.
She fell right back to sleep after saying 'ouch'.
The doctor immediately checked her and told Francesca that she was only sleeping.
In and out she came out of sleep for another three days. Barely awake enough to eat something, take medicine and back to sleep.
Her bathing was carried out by Mrs Russo and the maids. Some days it looked like her color was returning and some days like today she looked deathly pale.
'Ma'am I just have to ask. Is she by any chance with child?',
Mrs Russo froze.
Child?
For all she knew Luigi hadn't done anything with her. And she knew because she'd asked him.
'No, she shouldn't be. To my knowledge she shouldn't be ',
'Just ruling out all possible hindrances to her recovery. I think she doesn't do well with laudanum. That's the only explanation I can come up with for the tiredness. But if we don't give it to her she'd feel every single pain her body is experiencing ',
'I understand. But for now lets-',
The door was opened by Luigi.
As calm as he looked and walked, murder was written all over him.
'il mio orgoglio, cos'è successo?!', he wasn't supposed to be back. He was a week early.
(My pride, what has happened?)
'abbiamo finito presto. gli anziani ci hanno concesso il congedo',he said as he sat next to her in bed.
(we finished early. the elders granted us leave)
'That is good then, you're just in time. She'd soon awaken',
'For the sake of your son mama, she should',
The doctor immediately gave a run down of how he met her, what he'd given to her and the progress being made.
'The new medicine would have been nice, but I doubt you'd want to risk a dependency for the future Donna',
Luigi didn't say a word to that. The doctor took the hint and left. Mrs Russo headed out as well.
'riposa tranquillo amore mio, sono qui ora. e pagheranno per aver concepito il pensiero, e ancor più per aver osato realizzarlo', he kissed her forehead and cheek, frowning when he found them too warm to the touch.
(rest easy my love, I'm here now. and they'll pay for conceiving the thought, and more so for daring to carry it out)
He called for his mama to come look after her while he took care of some long overdue business.
'il mio orgoglio, I have an impossible request from you',
'Speak mother',
'Spare them till she awakens. That's all I ask',
'You ask for too much mother', he walked away without a backwards glance.

She opened her eyes to see darkness.
Night again?
Sighing she pulled herself up and found she was stronger, none of that woozy feeling. Stretching she was reminded of the pain in some places, but she moved easier.
She stood up from the bed and stumbled a bit. Waiting for her feet to steady she made steady steps to the wash basin where she freshened up.
She pulled on the thick robe she saw nearby and was glad it was decent enough to roam the halls.
She left the room, making her way to hers. So lost in thoughts she didn't know how she got to where she was. The grunt of pain was unmistakable.
She pushed open the door.
A horrified gasp left her mouth.
There was Hosea receiving a severe beating from none other than Luigi.
Luigi?!
'Why? What's going on?',
'Leave amore. I'd be with you shortly', Luigi spoke breathing heavily.
'What? no! Why are you hurting fratello? What happened? I won't let you-',
'You have no say in mafia business amore. I won't say it again, leave!',
She suddenly felt weak at the knees. But she knew she wasn't leaving Hosea there. He could kill her if he wanted, but she wasn't leaving Hosea there.
'No', she stumbled forward. Luigi straightened up with a sigh.
That was all she needed to insert herself between them.
'Please, just stop', she begged.
Luigi stared her down, this was the Luigi she didn't know. But she wasn't going to move.
'He was the one who saved me, this isn't how you repay a debt. Please, just stop',
Without a word, Luigi turned and left.
With a shaky breathe she worked on freeing him from where he was tied up.
'Thank you soreilla', Hosea mumbled as she tried to support him out.
'I'm so sorry-',
'No don't do that, I can manage. Your stitches are not fully healed. There you go', he took her back to Mrs Russo's room where he simply collapsed into a chair.
Luigi was a mean devil.
She laid awake for awhile thinking on what she should do next , sleep soon claimed her.
She faintly remembered someone stroking her cheek at one point in the night.
Probably a dream.
She sighed and let sleep consume once again. Gosh she was tired .
Luigi sat next to her and watched her sleep.
His Donna.
If anyone had done what she'd just done their corpse would be on its way to an unmarked grave by now.
He turned his head to was Hosea who was asleep as well.
He was lucky.
But his amore needed to learn when not to interfere.
He caressed her cheeks again, placed a kiss on her lips before leaving her.
If she was strong enough to find the training room then she strong enough to have breakfast and a talk with him as well.
All in due time.
He pulled off his shirt, walked to his desk where he poured a glass of whiskey for himself.
All in due time indeed.
But first, he'd need to have his father where he wanted him.
He would have been more surprised if he made a run for it, but the Russo's were a proud bunch.
Knocking back the drink in one go, he lay on his bed and tried to rest for a bit.
Tomorrow had a lot of events lined up.
