When the door opened to the office that Jervonte and Julian were sitting in. They were getting ready to call Kristen's aunt. When Andre was settled in the room the two boys explained the phone call that they had with Kristen's uncle, Trayvon.
As soon as they finished the conversation the police officer punched in the numbers to call his auntie. He called once and she didn't answer, but he called again she answered.
"Hey, this is the South Carolina Police Department I am calling to speak to Imani James." Officer Jones said to reassure himself that he was talking to the right person.
"Yes," answered a tired voice.
"I am calling to speak to you about your nephew, Kristen James."
"Yes, just give me two minutes to try to not be sleepy." She says. You could hear a lot of shuffling.
"Ok, what's up?"
"I was just wondering if you could come to pick up your nephew. He is currently at the hospital, and we have his friend's parents."
"Why is he in the hospital?"
"His parents were abusing him, and they were also addicts to alcohol and drugs."
"Well, why didn't you say that first. What hospital is he in?" You could hear some shuffling, and by the end of the sentence you could tell the phone was on speaker because you could hear how far away her voice was.
"He's at the Greenville Memorial Hospital," Officer Jones said.
"Okay, I will see yall at the hospital, bye." She said then hung up not giving anyone time to say 'bye' back. Guess it is a family trait to not allow the person on the opposite end of the phone to say it.
They all left to meet Imani James at the hospital.
When they got to the hospital they sat in the waiting room for about 20 minutes when finally they heard the doors to the hospital open. Something told them to lift their heads up, and when they did they saw a beautiful, young, black woman.
"Umm, I'm here to meet someone about my nephew, Kristen James." She shouted.
"Yea, we are right here," Andre said. While he, his sons, and officer Jones stood up.
"Hot damn," She said loud and proud. She also didn't look embarrassed by saying it either, this made the men chuckle.
"So where is my nephew?" She asks walking up to them.
"If you follow us we can show you." Answered Jervonte.
"Lead the way," they all went towards the elevator and pressed the button to go on the floor that Kristen and the others were on.
Except Julian and Jamar weren't in the room. They went to go get something from the cafeteria, and bring it back so that they all could enjoy it. When they entered the room Janaya sat up and when she didn't smell food she immediately screamed.
"STRANGER DANGER"
It was kind of ironic. Now she chooses to follow the rules of 'stranger danger' when she went home with a total stranger to meet more strangers.
"It's just us," responded Julian.
"Then who are they?" She questioned pointing at Imani and Officer Jones.
"As you can tell by my uniform that I'm a police officer."
"Is that supposed to make me feel better?" Janaya questions, "FTP"
"What does that mean?" The officer asked her thinking it could be something cute. In his defense, she is only seven years old.
"It means fuck the police." She responded with a shrug of her shoulders. To say that Officer Jones was taken aback was an understatement.
"Period," Imani said co-signing.
"Uh-uh, I don't know you enough for you to be co-signing for me," Janaya said looking Imani up and down with a slight mug on her face.
"My bad girl," Imani said putting her hands up "my name is Imani."
"That doesn't make me feel better. You could be a ploy. Trying to get people to kidnap me for human trafficking." Janaya said.
"Um, does me being Kristen's aunt do anything?"
"Do you know that his parents are drug addicts?" Janaya asked.
Imani just nodded knowing anything she could have said after that would not have made the situation any better. A couple of minutes later Janaya felt something near her hand move. First, she thought it was a bug, so she immediately jumped and squealed. This earned curious looks from the people in the room. When she looked back to where her hand once was. She noticed nothing there, well almost nothing. Kristen's hand was there.
"He moved," she whispered-screamed.
She moved closer to Kristen, so close that Kristen could feel her breath on his face. He moved a little bit more, then he opened his eyes.
"Hey," he whispered groggily.
