Looking around,
The battle scene is one that is not meant to please,
Bodies lay scattered on the ground,
Food for the maggots that squirm around,
The air is laced with the nauseating scent of blood,
Enveloping me with uncertainty.
It becomes difficult to see with all the tears that are welling my eyes,
Along with the smoke that clouds the thoughts in my mind,
An inner voice telling me that tell me I'm out of line
My heart sinks with the view in sight
The sorrow that over takes my soul
It a war that is also in my mind
One that takes me out when I turn the blind eye
It will consume me
And make sure I never see the light
The scene around me is now one with me
Becoming the very thing I breathe
A scar that was tailored especially for me
To remind me of the time I was too weak
Although the gunfire surrounds me
I am deaf to the violence for it has become home to me
Killing to save a place we call home
But also risking lives of those that were carrying so much hope
This is the war that has consumed us all
Little by little blinding us
Making us numb
To the cold truth and vicious reality
That this was all done just to be written some day
A fight for our lives we willingly kiss good-bye
War is a voice that takes over minds
This is why we have to win this fight
Not just mentally but physically be prepared for the lies
The grim reaper is already awaiting us
Thisis what the war has done to us
