Monsters are a terrible thing
But these monsters that I speak are not the ones that are depicted on screens
Nor the ones that are told in story book
These creatures do not hide under beds
The animals are not legends to tell to scare others for fun
These monsters do not appear out of nowhere
They aren't shadow figures that linger in darkness
They do not crawl from room to room trying to find something new to do
The ones that I know are much worse than this
The have fangs and do not fear to bare their teeth into dreams
They take their claws to cause great pain and lacerate the scars that were beginning to fade
These monsters live within us living in a cage waiting for the opportunity to be set free
To cause more damage inside of your brain
Causing dreams to turn into unbearable realities
The fear that chains the soul and refuses to let go
These monsters live within us all
And we can choose whether we want them to stay hidden or take control
They manifest and become the biggest part of us
And can also define who are to those that matter most to us
Sometimes these beats can stay contained
Other times they win at this unforgiving game
Taking us hostage for their personal gain
It's the monster we do not see that become the biggest part of who we want to be
