⚠️Trigger Warning: Mentions of rape, execution methods, and starvation⚠️

To think that Yeonjun, royalty, one whom is chosen by the divine right of kings, would be cuffed and held prisoner by his own men, is outrageous. He walked behind the kings men. He supposed these were the imbeciles sent to retrieve him from the elven king, yet there they were, treating him as a miscreant.

Yeonjun forced himself to remember that he had given up those selfish rights long ago, but it was a difficult thing to face, and as his feet dragged along the rough terrain, he had plenty of time to think. To think about what his plan of action would be. It had been many years since he had last seen of his father. Back when he disappeared, Yeonjun thought that perhaps his father would grow softer after the disappearance of his only heir but he was incredibly wrong. His father went awol. He could not say how he knew of everything he did know, but perhaps it was because of his ability to dampen his presence.

The kings men resorted to snatching peasant women off the street and forcing them into affairs with the king so that he could produce a second heir, but never was their another male heir produced. Only little girls left in poverty because the king was selfish. Yeonjun had seen them abduct a woman once. He was in an alley. He was just cutting through a darker area to conceal himself, but he ended up beside the bakery where the guards were entering. He held his breath, pressing himself against the wall as he listened to two guards chatter outside. They spoke of the kings affairs and one of his distaste for abducting innocent citizens. The other shot back some sort of chauvinistic comment about the weakness of women and how he wished he could have the kings power. Yeonjun almost threw up right then and there. He hated the idea of innocent women being taken from their families only to return with one more bastard child. And all because of him?

Yet he couldn't make himself go back. He felt selfish. All of these innocent lives being affected and he couldn't go back and live with the mild inconvenience and privilege he had previously lived under. He had sat awake at night, pondering that scenario. Wasn't he supposed to be a holy being? Wasn't he supposed to do what's right? Yet he knew about these atrocities being committed and he did nothing.

Suddenly he felt like he deserved the chains that dug into his wrists. He deserved those and anything else that came his way. He deserved imprisonment for what he had done. Even then, the guilt pushed bile into his throat and he could've vomited as he walked homeward. His feet hurt and he was hot, caked with dirt and sweat and filth. He was glad he had been placed at the front of his comrades because he could not bear to see their conditions.

It was sweet relief when they'd been allowed to stop for the night. The soldiers had set up camp, building a fire to cook their own meal. The smell made Yeonjun's stomach cramp as he curled into a ball in the cold. He tried to ignore it as he listened to the soldiers.

"Why do you think the king sent us to Hellspost for this group of miscreants?" One asked as he shovelled stew into his mouth.

"Beats me. Is it not a very strange group?" Another asked, taking his time with his food.

"I heard the gate guards were sentenced to death," the first guard mentioned again. "Poor buggers. How were they supposed to know not to let these few out?"

"Must be a rule they should've memorized," the second shrugged.

"Strange for a group of men to be accompanied by a single woman," the first said, wiping his mouth. "Do you think they found her at the brothel?"

"I've been there many times. I have not seen her before."

"Perhaps they found her along the way. They won't be needing her anymore. The king never said they needed to be unspoiled. Perhaps I'll take my turn."
