Kicking

Kane is lying in the living room watching tv with Darren. It's been a little while since the baby first moved, and now the little kicks are stronger and easier to feel. When the baby starts moving, Kane looks over to Darren.

"The baby is awake," he tells him. Darren scoots closer, and his hand hovers over Kane's stomach, waiting for permission. Kane gives him a small nod, and he places his hand on the tummy to feel the baby.

"You really got a little person in there," He says, smiling. "Finding out you were pregnant was crazy, and then seeing the baby in the pictures was crazy, but feeling the little guy or girl in there is so-."

"Crazy?" Kane cuts in. They both laugh, and Darren nods.

"Yeah, like really crazy," he says. "Oh! I'm going to get Oliver, keep the baby awake so he can feel too. The baby always goes back to sleep when it's his turn," Darren says. He gets up and runs off to find Oliver.

Darren is glad Oliver is in his room, so he doesn't have to take a while to find him. "Hey! The baby is kicking! If you hurry, you might get to feel it!" Darren tells him.

Oliver gets up quickly. "Where is Kane?" he asks, excited to finally feel the baby kick.

"Living room," Darren answers. They both head to the living room, and Oliver sits next to Kane, and he grabs Oliver's hand and places it on his stomach.

It takes a second, but finally, Oliver feels a little kick against his palm. He smiles happily. "I felt it! The baby kicked!" He says excitedly. Kane chuckles.

The baby stops moving soon after. "At least you got to feel the baby a little this time," Darren says. "Maybe you just make the baby feel sleepy," He adds.

"If your presence makes my kid fall asleep, you get to handle nap time when they are older," Kane jokes. They all laugh, and Oliver nods, "Deal."

Later that night, Oliver sits in the kitchen with Darren while watching him cook something for Kane to eat. Darren stares into the pot and swirls the noodles around, but he doesn't seem focused or present.

"Hey, what are you thinking about?" Oliver asks. Darren doesn't respond or even acknowledge that he has been spoken to, so Oliver gets up and walks over to him. He gently pats Darren's arm to get his attention. Darren snaps out of his daze and nearly drops his spoon.

"Sorry, did you say something?" He asks.

"I asked what you are thinking about," Oli tells him. "Don't say it's nothing. If you're this distracted, then it's obviously something." He adds.

"You wouldn't get it. Don't worry about it," Darren says.

"Try me, and even if I don't understand, it might help you to talk about it anyway." He responds.Darren sighs. "Do you ever wish you weren't an alpha?" He asks.

Oliver takes a moment to think and then shakes his head. "No, not really." He answers.

"Then you wouldn't get it," Darren tells him.

"Why don't you want to be a beta? Betas are an important dynamic too." Oliver says.

"Only betas want to get with betas," Darren says.

"That's not true. These days there are plenty of Alpha-Beta and Omega-Beta relationships. Dynamic isn't as important as it used to be," Oliver informs.

Darren sighs again. "Kane and Regie didn't get together until Kane went into heat and everyone found out he was an omega," Darren counters.

"Well yeah, that played a part in getting them to realize they liked each other, but their relationship is about more than just being an alpha and omega. They liked each other, and they probably would have ended up together anyway. It just would have taken longer," Oliver explains.

"Well, you are an alpha, so would you date someone who is a beta? A guy who couldn't give you kids even if he wanted to?" Darren asks.

"Yeah, of course, I would. I'm going to be with them for the person, they are, not whether they can give me kids or not," Oliver replies.

"You want kids, though, don't you? You have been all over Kane since he got pregnant, and you looked really happy feeling the baby. You wouldn't want that?" He asks.

"Well, in this hypothetical where I'm dating a male beta, sure, he can't get pregnant, but there are other ways to have kids like adoption or getting a surrogate, and of course, I'm all over Kane, he is pack, and he is carrying my little niece or nephew in there. Even if we aren't related like him and Ty, we are still family. So, if I fell in love with someone who couldn't carry a child, I would still love them and want to be with them," Oliver says.

"I don't know if I believe you," Darren says.

Oliver grabs Darren's face and gently turns him so he can look into his eyes. "Believe me. I wouldn't lie to you. I don't care if you can't have kids," He says.

Darren blushes, and he takes a step away from Oliver. "H-hey! I never said that I was your hypothetical boyfriend! I was just asking for your opinion. What do you have a crush on me or something?" He asks, laughing awkwardly. "The noodles are done, um, you strain them. I'll get Kane." Then Darren is rushing out of the room.

Oliver chuckles, watching Darren's reaction. He shakes his head a bit as Darren runs away. He strains the noodles and smiles to himself. "He's cute when he's embarrassed," he mumbles to himself.
