The next few days of Kane's heat went by much like the first. Regie stayed with him nearly the whole time. He would take care of Kane when the wave of heat hit, and afterward, he would clean them both up. In between waves, he would leave the room to eat and do what he needed to, and one of the Betas would take care of keeping Kane fed and hydrated and giving him medicine if needed.
Darren and Ty were primarily responsible for taking care of Kane, but Justin had also helped out a few times. Ryan hadn't been in the room yet, but the others would catch him lingering outside. He would scurry off as soon as he was seen, though.
On the 4th day, the heat had mostly subsided. The cramps were gone, and he didn't feel the need like he did before. His scent was still sweet but not as strong. He felt OK enough to leave the pack room, but he was told to wait until the heat entirely subsided.
Since he wasn't horny anymore, he saw Regie less. He took this time to think more seriously about his feelings for Regie. They got along, and he enjoyed spending time with the other, but he never thought of him as a potential mate before.
Then again, Kane had never allowed himself to explore the possibility of having a mate before. Since he had started hiding his status as an omega, he figured he wouldn't be able to get a partner for a long time. If he had to list the traits he would want in a mate, he thought Regie fit the description well.
He couldn't deny that Regie had good physical characteristics as well. He was attractive and strong, and he was good in bed. Then there were their scents. Kane had never realized how good Regie smelled until he built his nest. He loved the way they smelled together too, and their scents mixed perfectly.
The more he thought about it, the more he realized that he wanted Regie. He didn't know how Regie felt, though. It wasn't uncommon to have heat or rut partners with whom you were just friends. Regie could have been helping him out because they were friends, not because he was attracted to him. Kane couldn't help the disappointment he felt at the thought.
Besides thinking about his feelings, he had also spent more time with the betas. Since the worst part was over and Regie wasn't with him as often, the betas took the opportunity to bond with him. He spent most of his meals with Darren, and throughout the day, Justin would pop in now and then.
Mostly they would chat or play games on their phones together. There wasn't much else to do. He had yet to see Ryan, though. Now that he had a more clear mind, he couldn't help but think about why. His mind had supplied only one reason. Ryan was angry with him.
Even though the worst of it was over, Kane was still in a period of being more emotional than usual. Soon his scent had turned distressed as worry took over at the thought of Ryan being angry at him.
Within just a few minutes, the door opened, and Ty entered the room. "What's wrong? what happened?" He asked.
Kane looked up at his brother. "You have to be honest. Does Ryan hate me now?" He asked. Ty blinked a few times before he shook his head.
"Of course not. Where did you get that idea?" He asked.
"He hasn't come in once. He is mad at me for hiding that I'm an omega." Kane answered, and Ty sighed. "He isn't mad. He has just been busy." When the distressed scent didn't change, he asked, "Do you want me to go get him?"
Kane nodded. Ty left the room, and the next time the door opened, Ryan was entering. "I heard you missed me," He teased lightly. Kane patted the spot next to him in the nest, inviting Ryan in. "Are you mad at me?" he asked first.
Ryan climbed into the nest. "I'm not mad. I don't get why you hid it, but I'm not mad about it." He answered. The distressed scent finally started to ease up.
"Then why didn't you come to see me?" Kane asked. Ryan shrugged a bit. He wasn't sure why he never decided to go in. Whenever one of the other members saw him, he felt weird going in, so he would walk away. "I felt weird," he answered.
"Because I'm an omega?" Kane asked, but even though it was a question, it sounded a bit like a statement instead. Ryan nodded. "Yeah, probably. Having an omega around changes things, and it's not a bad thing or a good thing. It's just what happens. once we get used to it, everything will be normal again." He stated with a shrug.
Kane knew Ryan was right. It wasn't good or bad. It's just how things worked, and everyone needed to get used to it. "Can you stay with me for a while?" he asked.
Ryan sighed. "I gueeess," he smiled and laid down next to Kane.
Kane smiled and lay next to Ryan. He hadn't scented anyone except for Regie so far, but he was tempted to ask Ryan.
"You smell good. You have the best scent out of the betas," Kane mumbled. Ryan didn't know how to respond, so he offered Kane his wrist. Kane shook his head. "Like this," he said, then he moved close and nuzzled into Ryan's neck.
Ryan couldn't help the slight blush that dusted his cheeks as he scented Kane. It only got worse as Kane scented him. Once they were thoroughly scented, Kane relaxed fully, and soon he was asleep again. Ryan let himself drift off as well.
