For the past week, Darren had been stuck to Kane like glue. Kane didn't mind the attention. Since he got pregnant, he got used to having extra attention from the members, but he had a feeling this wasn't just Darren suddenly feeling the need to dote on him 24/7.
Kane sighs, and Darren looks over. "What's wrong? is something wrong with the nest? Do you need more pillows? blankets?" Darren asks.
"I want to go out! I'm tired of sitting in the house, so if you're going to use me as an excuse to avoid whatever you're avoiding, you at least have to take me out," Kane answered.
Darren was flustered and stuttered out the beginnings of an argument, but one look from Kane shut him up. He sighed and nodded. "Ok, come on," he said and helped Kane up.
They got ready quickly and were on their way. After leaving, Kane texted Regie to let him know that he had left so that he wouldn't worry.
They went to the baby store first and picked up a few small things Kane wanted to add to the nest in the nursery. Darren also picked out a few more things to decorate the baby's room.
After doing a little bit of shopping, Kane got hungry. They found a restaurant, which was pretty empty when they got there.
"I'll be ready to go home once we are done here. I miss Regie," Kane said. He and Regie had barely been apart since Kane got pregnant, and when they were apart, Kane was in his nest surrounded by Regie's scent anyway, so he didn't realize how much being away from Regie's scent would affect him. Being away from Regie made him feel vulnerable and unsafe, and he wanted to get back to him and never leave his side again.
In order to distract himself, he decided it was time to question Darren. "So, are you gonna tell me what is going on with you?" He asked.
"With me? Nothing is going on with me. I just want to spend more time with you. Everyone has." Darren answers.
"Oh, don't give me that. I'm not stupid, Darren," He replies.
Darren sighs and looks down. "I think I might like Oliver," Darren admits quietly.
"Honestly, I'm not that surprised. You guys have been spending more time together recently," Kane says. "So, what's the problem?" He adds.
"He's him, and I'm me! That's the problem!" Darren sighs and leans his head on the table. "Why would he like me?" Darren sighs again.
Kane rolls his eyes. "So, the problem is that you're being stupid," he stated. "If you like him, just tell him. You can't decide how he feels on your own. Just talk to him, or I'm banning you from being around me. No using me as an excuse to avoid your feelings." Kane tells him and sticks his tongue out at him.
Darren frowns but agrees to talk to Oliver. Once the food arrives, Kane only eats about half of it before he demands to be taken home. The restaurant had gotten more crowded, and the need to be with Regie was growing unbearable.
Kane made his way inside as quickly as possible when they got home. Regie was already waiting by the door. He wrapped Kane up in a hug and scented him, and Kane instantly relaxed."I missed you. Never leave me again," Kane said.
Regie could've pointed out that Kane was actually the one that left the house without telling him he was going out, but instead, he just agreed. "I won't, don't worry. I'm right here, and I'll keep being here," he reassured.
"I wanna go lay in the nest. I'm exhausted," Kane said.
Regie took Kane to their bedroom to lay down and take a nap. Kane wasn't the only one who didn't like being away. Regie also wanted to be with Kane every second, and he just wanted to wrap him up and protect him from the world. Kane and Regie lay in the nest, scenting each other until Kane fell asleep.
While Kane went inside, Darren grabbed the bags from the trunk. Oliver made his way outside to him. "Need any help?" He asked.
Darren shook his head. "It's only a couple of bags," he said. "But, when I'm done putting this in the nursery, I think that we should talk," he adds.
Oliver nods, "Yeah, just meet me in the living room."
Once Darren puts the stuff away, he spends a couple of minutes pacing around the nursery, regretting his decision to ask to talk. He takes long enough that Oliver comes and finds him.
Oliver opens the door and peeks in. "Everything ok?" He asks.
Darren jumps a bit and turns to the door. "Oh, uh, yeah," he answers.
Oliver steps into the room and closes the door behind him. "What is it that you wanted to talk about?" He asked.
"Well, Kane had to come home early, so I couldn't eat much. I just wanted to ask if you were hungry," Darren said.
Oliver smiled. "Yeah, I'm hungry. Let's eat together," Oliver said.
Then Darren noticed Oliver had something in his hand. "What's that?" He asked.
Oliver holds out a book. It's a children's book called "Toads on Toast." Darren takes the book and slips through it. "That's cute," he smiles and walks over, placing it on the bookshelf where they had begun a small collection of books for the baby to read when they got older.
Darren didn't notice the upset look on Oliver's face, but he didn't notice the shift in his scent. "Ok, ok, I know you're hungry, don't worry, I'm not putting everything away. Let's go eat," Darren says, assuming Oliver is upset that he may have to wait long to eat.
Oliver nods and follows Darren down to the kitchen. They make casual conversation while Darren makes the food, and Oliver is happy to spend some time with him after Darren had avoided him all week. He avoids bringing up anything about their last conversation or the past week, fearing Darren would run away if he tried to.
